In the Kuban region, doctors removed a 40-centimeter steel string from a 28-year-old patient, which had been forgotten by other doctors during a previous operation. A thin steel tourniquet moved in the woman's vessel and almost reached the heart, but the surgeons removed it in time.
The incident was reported by the Ministry of Health of the Krasnodar Territory.
A 28-year-old patient came to the City Clinical Hospital No. 3 of Krasnodar with complaints of pain in the left groin area. In order to make a diagnosis, the woman underwent ultrasound duplex scanning of the veins of the inferior vena cava system, echocardiography of the heart, and X-ray contrast CT angiography. The obtained results surprised the doctors - in the woman's body "an unfixed metallic foreign body was found, starting from the femoral vein and continuing to the cavity of the right atrium." In other words, the metal string passed through the entire body inside the vessel and almost reached the heart.
As the doctors of the City Clinical Hospital No. 3 explained to the correspondent, the steel tourniquet could have gotten into the patient's body, presumably during a previous operation.
“The modern equipment supplied as part of the Healthcare national project made it possible to identify the exact localization and spread of a foreign body, taking into account its constant movement with the blood flow, and thereby perform this intervention with minimal invasion,” the Ministry of Health of the Krasnodar Territory reported.
As a result of the operation, the steel string was still pulled out of the patient's body. The length of this tourniquet, according to doctors, was more than 40 centimeters. After the surgery, the woman herself feels good and her health is no longer in danger.
