"Elephant Man" decided to earn some money as a seller
James O'Neill compares himself to the "elephant man". Due to a genetic disease, his face is severely disfigured, but this may soon change.
O'Neill knows that his ugliness shocks people. He knows others with this condition would rather hide, but James has been working in a shop in Kirkland, Washington for seven years. “I just tell people that I am who I am. If you don't like me, you don't like me,”says James.
However, the customers of the store not only like it, but really like it. “He's a wonderful person and we adore him,” says Aubrey Richins. “I have a lot of sympathy for James,” agrees Katie Knopff. “I must admit, when I first saw him, I was scared, but then I realized what kind of person he was. Once Mrs. Knopff decided to act. Since health insurance won't cover all the costs of complex surgery, she created a donation site. The company that owns the store became the first sponsor and contributed $ 10,000, and also pledged to help O'Neill with all the paperwork.
O'Neill has lived with neurofibromatosis since childhood. The tumors stopped growing when it stopped growing. The operation will help him get rid of them forever. “What they do for me is a miracle,” says O'Neill.
