One of the most terrifying mysteries in the world is the Ossuary (church on bones). It is located in the Czech Republic and is made of human bones. The Ossuary is located on the outskirts of the Czech town of Kutná Hora and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Central and Eastern Europe.

The history of this mystery of the world began in 1278, when the Sedlec abbot brought a handful of holy land from Jerusalem, where he traveled on a diplomatic mission, and scattered it over the monastery cemetery.

Since then, this land was considered Holy, which increased its popularity among the noble families of the Czech Republic and neighboring countries. The cemetery grew rapidly. Since plague raged throughout Europe in 1318, cemeteries could not accommodate a huge number of the deceased, and therefore secondary burials were practiced, when bones were removed from the ground and piled in a chapel, and new deceased were buried in the vacated graves.

The land in the cemetery was resold more than six times; about 40 thousand human remains were buried on the site of the ossuary of the Sedlec Monastery. Basically, these are people who died from the plague, but there are also the remains of the military. In 1511, a half-blind monk, in order to streamline chaos, folded the bones into six pyramids, 2-3 meters high, four at the corners of the ossuary and two pyramids in the center. However, he did not use any adhesives. After the death of the monk, the pyramids were left, and the church was closed in 1784.

At that time, Prince Schwarzenberg became the owner of the lands of the monastery, who hired a local woodcarver in order to restore the church. Using bleach, Frantisek Rint created what is now called the Ossuary.

Human remains will not be restored, as this is considered disrespectful to the dead, therefore, the interior will be kept until it crumbles to dust.

This serves as a reminder that we are all not eternal, and death overtakes everyone, without exception.
