New Zealand scientists have found that the female giant squid caught in 2007 led a harmless, calm lifestyle. AFP reports
Scientists are convinced that the caught specimen was many years old. With age, the female's body has lost its natural elongated shape, which allows the squid to swim quickly. It began to resemble a huge 495-kilogram gelatinous clot.
Having lost the opportunity to hunt, the female was forced to feed mainly on dead fish. Her main occupation was bearing a huge amount of eggs.
The results of scientists contradict traditional ideas about giant monsters from the deep sea. It is believed that the image of the Kraken monster, which terrified sailors in the Middle Ages, arose as a result of a meeting with a giant squid.
Currently, scientists know little about this type of living creature. This is partly due to the fact that they live in Antarctica at a depth of 1000 meters or more. The squid caught in April is considered the largest intact specimen to date. It is assumed that it will be exhibited at the museum.
