Serpent Gorynych for adults

Mysterious monsters, where do they live? Naturally in fairy tales. For example, dragons, they are the characters of ancient legends, exciting and frightening stories for children. These cunning and vicious creatures sowed destruction and death everywhere. And spewing from the mouth, burning everything in its path, the flame destroyed entire cities and countries. Only the most courageous daredevils, noble knights, unparalleled heroes could enter into confrontation with them. Killing monsters, they saved the peoples from inevitable death, saved written beauties, beautiful princesses from captivity and imprisonment. All this, if you believe the tales, is the property of the most distant past? But it is curious that people faced monsters of wondrous appearance in later times.

For example, in the second half of the last century on Lake Lough Morar, which is located in Scotland, and whose waters have existed since the Mesozoic era, differing in considerable depth, local residents and visitors to the beauties of nature, according to their stories, often observed a creation unknown to science: huge sizes with a snake head. The eyewitness accounts were so emotional and colorful that in 1970 scientists conducted a special study on the lake in order to find out the reliability of the rumors.

The members of the expedition, after persistent attempts, also managed to ascertain the reality of an unusual creature, the size of which, according to the researchers, was more than thirteen meters. On this occasion, Professor G. Vakhrushev expressed his conviction that this representative of the planet's fauna is a lacustrine plesiosaur. This is the most ancient vertebrate, perfectly adapted for existence in water bodies. Such creatures have lived on the planet since the Triassic period, and also much later.

But the appearance of the plesiosaurs was quite diverse, and scientists find their remains on all continents, even in Antarctica. There is a hypothesis that such animals could survive in our time, inhabiting ancient, inaccessible landscapes, formed in distant times. One of these is the Scottish Highlands and the deep lakes located on it, which are far from modern civilization.

Scottish monsters

Indeed, this is far from the first case of the appearance of huge fantastic creatures lost in Scottish waters. The most famous of these is the Loch Ness Monster. One of the many witnesses, farmer Hugh Ayton, claims that he, along with his son and three workers, while sailing on a motor boat one evening on Lake Ness, saw a majestic and frightening picture. The creature before the observers was of impressive size with rough black skin. It had a long neck and a slightly flattened head, similar to that of a horse, and the animal's body consisted of three humps. Eyewitnesses claimed that for some time the monster's gaze was directed directly at them, and its large oval eyes looked at the strangers without looking up. Then the creature disappeared.

The legends of Scotland are rich in descriptions of monsters, which, as scientists do not unreasonably assume, could actually exist and were lake lizards. There is documentary evidence that such strange animals can be extremely dangerous to humans. In the notes of an Irish missionary, preserved from 565, it is possible to read that the author was destined to attend the funeral of the unfortunate, attacked creature that looked like a huge toad. The monster managed to describe in detail the companion of the deceased, who managed to escape.

Lake Ness, as can be concluded from some sources, has been inhabited by monsters since ancient times. Locals called them water kelpies, forbidding children to play by the water. Since 1880 alone, about three thousand eyewitnesses have been recorded of the appearance to people of creatures of the most diverse and rare forms in nature.

Unknown fauna of our planet

Many scientific works written by scientists of the 21st century and centuries earlier did not answer all the questions. How well is science aware of the animals on earth? Professors and academics find it difficult to even judge whether all dinosaurs on the planet are really extinct. According to official data, these representatives of the fauna were completely erased from history 150 million years ago. But cryptozoology contradicts this statement, offering for study many facts about the existence of prehistoric animals on Earth in periods not so distant.

Someone S. Herberstein, a Russian diplomat who lived about five centuries ago, in addition, a writer and traveler, in his diary talks about forest people who, as familiar pets, kept marvelous creatures of a dark color, similar to large black lizards. Local residents often observe prehistoric animals in the Yakut lakes to this day. According to eyewitnesses, monsters eat large fish, birds, not disdaining human flesh. Euripides and Aristotle mentioned sea serpents in their works.

Modern zoology talks about dragons

Dragons, or rather dragons, exist on Earth even now, even according to official scientific data. A striking representative of this kind of creatures is the Komodo dragon. In appearance, this creature is exactly like the dinosaurs that we are used to seeing in pictures, studying scientific encyclopedias. A large individual of this biological species is capable of reaching a weight of 90 kg, dimensions up to three or more meters.

Outwardly, the Komodo dragon is a cross between a crocodile and a lizard. The teeth of this predator are sharp, as is the tail, which measures half the length of its body. With such a weapon, the animal can successfully attack its opponents and victims. The mouth of this representative of the fauna resembles a shark in appearance, and in some cases can be no less dangerous. Such an animal lives in Indonesia, most often found on the island of Komodo, which was the reason for the name. The waters of the planet are also home to a fish called by biologists "sea dragon". An injection of her poisonous glands can cause death of a person.

Scientists suggest that the described animals appeared on Earth together with dinosaurs and, as a species, having existed for millions of years, having survived all planetary cataclysms, has perfectly adapted to modern conditions. And if so, is it possible to assert with certainty that other types of creatures could not survive from prehistoric times? And is there anything implausible in this?

Testimonies of dragons, myths?

Historians believe that for the first time the image of a dragon appeared before mankind in Sumerian myths, and this happened about five thousand years ago. At least earlier sources have not reached the attention of modern scientists. Further, rumors about such frightening creatures spread in Ancient Egypt, had a glimpse in the myths of Greece, and later migrated to the tales of the countries of the East and Europe.

Such characters were not necessarily vicious. Sometimes dragons were just wise keepers of secret knowledge and treasures in the caves. But mostly they horrified the population of many countries with their power, destructive power and unusual abilities. These could be flying snakes, frightening with fire-breathing breath and poisonous saliva. Often they possessed not even one, but several (a dozen or more) heads, decorated in some cases with formidable horns.

It was difficult to fight such opponents, because it seemed that they were immortal. And their severed heads could grow back, instilling fear in opponents, bordering on panic. Of course, in fairy tales everything happens, and everything like that seems to be an unconditional invention. But what if we recall the fantastic possibilities of regeneration of similar living beings, for example, snakes or lizards, which regrow their newly lost tails and other parts of the body? Given the biological capabilities of congeners, it is quite possible to believe in legends. Even fairy tales do not appear from scratch.
