In prisons, a clear division of prisoners into castes has formed over many decades. For representatives of each of them, depending on the position in the prison hierarchy, there are rules of conduct.

One of the lowest categories is "devils" - half-slaves who do dirty work and have no authority among inmates. Usually, this caste includes psychologically weak, incapable of defending themselves and prone to submission. "Devils", they are "pigs", "shnyri" or "horses" do work in prison that is not customary for a normal prisoner.

For example, wash clothes or sweep the floor. "Devils" cannot argue, they must do everything that they are told and listen to more authoritative prisoners "for fear." In ordinary zones, the "devils" live with "men" - unprofessional inmates who have committed a crime as a result of a tragic coincidence, and are waiting for the end of the term to return to normal life. The "muzhiks" hold themselves exactly, representing a prison middle peasant. We can say that "devils" are the lowest type of "men".

Presumably until the 80s, the caste of "devils" was called "pigs". "Chushki" are those who do not take care of themselves, rarely wash and dress untidy. The fact is that hygiene in the prison environment is held in high esteem: to monitor both your appearance and the cleanliness of the surrounding space should be in the order of things for any normal prisoner.

But getting a person to prison, especially if it happened for the first time, is a great stress for him. In such conditions, it is very difficult for a psychologically weak person to maintain himself in proper order.

Thoughts about life behind bars oppress the prisoner, the future scares him. The person drops his hands and stops shaving, washing, brushing his teeth and performing other hygiene procedures. A prisoner who has given up on his appearance easily runs the risk of being in the category of "devils". In Russian prisons and colonies, the opinion has been established that only a person who has lost willpower, the one who has broken under the blows of fate, stops taking care of himself. In the harsh conditions of imprisonment, such a prisoner is considered a weakling, loses all respect of others and goes into the category of "pigs". Thus, unwillingness to monitor one's appearance can easily lead a person to the very bottom of the prison hierarchy.

But if you delve deeper into the question and try to understand the history and origin of devils, then you can learn a lot of interesting things. Remember at least the elderly, who are called devils, mischievous children. Well, or in general, a person far from prison vocabulary, calling another a trait, represents this mythical and disgusting image?

In many Russian fairy tales and legends, the devil is one of the main characters. The Slavs have always experienced fear of evil spirits, believing that even the mention of it can attract misfortune. At the same time, today very few people can explain who the devil is, what he looks like and what he does. There are many legends and myths associated with the topic that relates to supernatural forces, so most of the information is not confirmed, and it is only an assumption.

Who is called the devil?

There are many different versions explaining the origin of devils, but among them the most common version can be distinguished, according to which they used to be angels who betrayed God and were expelled from paradise. In ancient times, the Slavs believed that evil spirits appear at the moment when the Devil wets his hands and shakes off the water. Another popular version says that devils appear from the spit of the Lord. There is another legend explaining who the devils are, as some people believe that they were created by Satan to fight the Heavenly Army. To create a single image, he used goats and deer walking in paradise.

Today it is not possible to say exactly when the devils first appeared, but it is assumed that they were created many years before the birth of mankind. It is believed that devils are fallen angels whom God threw from heaven with his hand. This version is supported by the lameness of the entities, since they broke their legs as a result of falling.

What do devils look like?

In fairy tales and movies, devils are usually represented as an animal, which has a human body, horns and a tail. To determine the real appearance of evil spirits, historians have repeatedly tried to find people who saw the devil.

Such polls have led to some conclusions, according to which it is believed that the Devil's helpers are small in stature and, like people, have arms and legs. The body of the evil spirits is covered with thick dark brown hair. The face of the trait combines the features of different animals and, first of all, it is a goat and a pig. As for the horns, they are described in different ways, some say that they are small, while others mention huge and branched growths. Many people who claim to have seen the trait say they have long teeth that stand out because of their yellowness. In the eyes of the followers of Satan, you can see a terrible fire that burns with anger and hatred. Of course, one cannot but recall the tail and hooves, which are characteristic features of devils.
