Andrey Efremov (Yakutsk) reports: “For many years I have been collecting and analyzing the testimonies of eyewitnesses who encountered the unknown in the Siberian taiga. It happens that such people themselves come to me and share their innermost memories. Moreover, literally every storyteller, recalling some unexplained incident that happened to him, will surely notice: “I do not believe in the devil or in God, but what happened …” Here is one of these stories.

Anatoly Serdyuk, a long-distance truck driver, an avid fisherman and mushroom picker, told me this case. He spent his childhood in the village of Tuloma on the Kola Peninsula, known to the whole world for its anomalous zones and mysterious phenomena. For many years, Anatoly has been living in Yakutsk, but when he comes home, when meeting with friends, they often recall a mystical incident that happened to them in their distant childhood.

The village of Tuloma, at that time a collective farm, is located on the river of the same name. The case in question occurred on one of the summer days in 1958, when Tolik was only six years old. He and other children loved to play in a rocky, sometimes flooded ravine near the river. A mixed forest grew there: pine, birch, spruce, mountain ash, and in that place they picked berries - blueberries, currants, cloudberries.

Demonic troubles

Once the children once again went down into the ravine to run over the stones. And suddenly they noticed a large hole on its slope, similar to a freshly dug hole. The children were surprised, because they knew the ravine like the back of their hand and had not noticed anything like it there before. When they approached the hole, they were completely taken aback: some small furry creatures with tails and horns were swarming around it. They had a light brown coat, knees bent in the opposite direction, and instead of feet - hooves. As if these creatures came out of the underworld. Devils - you can't name it otherwise!

The children hid and began to observe these strange creatures. Well, neither give nor take - fabulous imps! About a meter tall. Strange creatures swarmed around their hole. It was evident that they had just dug it: next to the hole was a pile of fresh earth, the stones were rolled away. The impression was that the imps were preoccupied with something, they were looking for something.

Not up to you now

And children are both scared and interesting. They tried to get closer to see these creatures. They noticed them and suddenly ran straight at them. The children began to run away, screaming in terror. The devilies did not pursue them. It seems as if they just wanted to drive away random observers from the hole. Anatoly is sure: if they wanted to catch up, they would catch up - the demons ran very quickly.

The children returned to the hole several times - curiously enough. But the devils drove them away again and again. They will run after them some distance and return to their hole, as if they show: do not interfere with our affairs, do not interfere, they say, we are not up to you now, they are busy! Apparently, in fact, they were doing something serious there.

- Now I think: it's good that they didn't have time for us then, - Anatoly recalls. - If it were "before us", we probably all would have had bad luck. We kids didn't understand.

When the children returned to the village and told the adults about the "evil spirits" in the ravine, they laughed at them. Nobody believed it, of course. This is despite the fact that adults themselves often told different stories and legends about their amazing land in long evenings.

- Of course, the story is fantastic, - says Anatoly. - I myself would not believe in such a thing. Yes, only I was not alone. My friends saw all this with me. We still, when we meet, remember this incident in the smallest detail. „

By the way, in our time there are many eyewitnesses who claim to have met terrible hairy creatures on the Kola Peninsula, similar to beavers, with humanoid faces. The Sami legends about the Sirta, a short people living underground, have also survived. Its name translated from Nenets means "making a hole, a hole." By the way, in Yakut the word “sire” means “land”. True, the Sirta people, judging by the descriptions, have nothing to do with the creatures that Anatoly saw.

Chahkli (chahkling) - this is how the inhabitants of the underground are called in the Sami mythology

The writer-fiction writer and public figure of the 19th century Vasily Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko in his essays on the Kola regions mentioned chahkli (chahkling) - this is how the inhabitants of the underground are called in the mythology of the Sami. They were described as human-like creatures, small in stature, naked, living underground or under rocks, extremely fussy. If you believe the legends, this is a very kind people, however, mischievous.

The chahkli sometimes harm people with their tricks. They say that they often frolic on the sandy shores - they jump out of the sand, dive into it again, like into water, again appear on the surface, and so on many times. The Sami even have a saying - about too fussy people they say: "Why are you diving, how stunted?" Perhaps Anatoly met them in childhood?
