For about 3 years, German archaeologists headed by Professor Harald Stoybl from the Institute of Archeology of Saxony, keeping Nordic endurance, hid a grandiose sensation from the world. All this time they have been carrying out painstaking excavations in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia. And only recently the German magazine Der Spiegel informed the inhabitants of the Old World about the European civilization, which is a thousand years older than Sumer and Egypt.

To date, scientists have discovered more than 150 ancient buildings. The most imposing one was near the current Dresden. According to archaeologists, they discovered a huge round-shaped sanctuary, surrounded by four moats, three earthen ramparts and two fences. People did not live here. Their settlements were at a distance. The largest of them was found in the vicinity of the modern city of Aitra, where 200 houses are located on an area of 25 hectares, ranging in size from 40 sq. m and more. All of them were built with stone and bone tools, and soil and wood were used as building materials. As it turned out, the ancients bred cows, goats, sheep and pigs and at the same time possessed a fairly developed culture. During the excavations, numerous figurines of people and animals and the remains of ceramic vessels decorated with geometric patterns were found.

Scientists were struck by the huge difference between the size of small houses and colossal temples. This speaks of the piety of the ancient builders, but who they worshiped and how it remains unknown. Archaeologists date their finds from 4800 to 4600. BC. Until now, the most ancient civilizations of Eurasia were considered the Sumerian and Egyptian, which arose at the end of the 4th millennium BC. Around the same period, the famous Stonehenge acquired its stone forms. According to the Moscow astroarchaeologist Tamila Potemkina, early Stonehenge was a relatively simple closed structure of earthen and wooden structures. It was built more than a thousand years earlier than the stone Stonehenge, which has survived to this day. The following structures are reliably associated with the first stage of Stonehenge's existence: two annular ramparts; moat between the shafts;a group of pillar pits in the gap between the ditch in the passage; two stones in the passage between the ends of the inner shaft; four powerful pillars opposite the passage outside the shafts. Thus, the similarities between the sanctuaries are evident.

The mysterious civilization existed for no more than 200 years. Where she disappeared remains an insoluble mystery for learned minds. Indeed, before the emergence of new monumental architecture in Europe, there were still 3 thousand years left, when the so-called Bronze Age came.

Meanwhile, traces of similar ancient settlements are scattered throughout the territory of modern Eurasia. They are united by temple complexes of round, square and even pentagonal shapes. Potemkina also confirms that similar monuments of the same time are known, with angular shapes, but they are still isolated. For example, the Eneolithic cult site of Makotrzasi, 15 km north-west of Prague, has a square shape with a side length of 300 m. So a round shape is not at all a rule. Nevertheless, all the sanctuaries are clearly oriented to the cardinal points, and none of the researchers have doubts that one of the functions of these buildings is to observe the cycle of the Sun. That is why they are sometimes called observatories, which served as calendars. The most famous of them are the already mentioned British Stonehenge and the Russian Arkaim. Both of them were built at the same time and, according to scientists, are absolutely independent of each other. Moreover, Arkaim, consisting of more than 20 cities, as well as the settlements found by German archaeologists, was suddenly abandoned by its inhabitants. And where they went is also still unknown. Russian scientists came closest to solving this mystery. But more on that later …
