The legend of the worldwide flood and how all mankind perished in the depths of the sea is recorded in the first biblical book of Genesis. In accordance with the text of the legend, when God saw the immorality and atrocities of the world, he decided to punish the peoples of the earth and bring down a flood on them. But only Noah and his family were saved.

God instructed Noah how to create a huge ship to save each type of animal, collecting them in pairs. When the ship was ready and the animals brought by God were in the ark, a heavy downpour started. As the Bible says, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, filling the entire earth. When the rain stopped and the water started to leave, the ark landed on the ground in the region of the Ararat mountains (Turkey).

Noah released the dove from the ark three times (once every day) and the third time the dove did not return. So he realized that the earth had dried up and it was time to leave the ark. Noah made a sacrifice to God, and God accepted it, so a contract was made between God and Noah. God gave his word that he will never again punish the earth with a flood for the sins of man; the rainbow has become the sign that seals this contract.

Based on this legend, the ark looked like a barge, probably built from cypress, on top it was saturated with bitumen for better sealing.

The dimensions of the ark were staggering, as it was about 137 m long, 23 m wide and 14 m high, with three decks, which contained several rooms. Noah's Ark was the largest ship made of wood until the 20th century. The displacement could be compared with the "Titanic". You can imagine the scale of the ark. The debate over whether a vessel of this size could accommodate a pair of each species of animal, not to mention how he was able to collect them in one place, continues to this day.

Traces of the missing ship have been searched for over 2000 years. And if we assume that he really exists, then he thereby proves the story written in the Bible.

Much to the disappointment, the search for the ark is clothed with incredulous research and outright deception. One of the first researchers who spoke about this was the Frenchman Fernand Navarra, who allegedly found several fossilized boards in the area of Mount Ararat. The wood samples were sent by him to five different laboratories, where their age was assessed (1190-1690 BC) But the boards, in fact, have nothing to do with the biblical account of Noah's ark. However, one of the members of the expedition assures that in fact Navarra bought these boards from local residents and lifted them up the mountain himself.

There were other people trying to find the lost Noah's Ark, one of them James Irwin, a NASA astronaut, went in search of several times, but like everyone else did not find any evidence of the existence of the ark. At the same time, in the 80s and 90s of the past century, Ron Wyatt, an adventure lover, discovered some noteworthy artifacts while climbing the mountain. Among them were iron rivets, washers, petrified wood and stone anchors, thinking that all these are the remains of the ark. But this was all refuted.

The Flood legend is found in different cultures and civilizations, not only in the Bible.

These myths, legends and tales are similar to the myths of the Assyrian-Babylonian period. The Legend of Gilgamesh is the most famous of these.

Such a catastrophe as a flood, albeit not of a global nature, was bound to remain in the memory of many peoples, if there was one at all. Even so, such an explanation cannot be direct evidence that the biblical legend of a worldwide flood is transmitting a real historical event.
