Have you ever had to re-read a text several times to understand its essence? Everyone is probably familiar with this problem - in his student years, everyone faced this. Researchers at Royal Melbourne University have teamed up with a local design school to try to tackle this problem. Paradoxically, a difficult-to-read font contributes to better memorization of the text read. Researchers and designers created it. It was named Sans Forgetica, and its main feature was the absence of some parts of the letters.
According to the authors, this appearance of the symbols encourages the brain to engage in a deeper study of the text, thereby making it better to remember it.
Completing the missing letter fragments takes only a split second, but the method, judging by the results of the experiment, really works.
To test the effectiveness, a study was conducted in which 400 students participated. They were divided into two groups and given two versions of the same text to read: one written in Sans Forgetica and the other in Arial. The Sans Forgetica text was 57% remembered by the students, while the Arial text was only 50% remembered.
