Experts from the University of Milan claim that between 30 and 60 percent of people have at least once come into contact with their deceased loved ones, and these visual or auditory hallucinations are not necessarily associated with any mental disorder. The scientists presented the results of their research in the Journal of Affective Disorders.
Hallucination or contact?
So, widowed people often talk about seeing their deceased spouse sitting in his favorite chair or hearing him call them.
Jacqueline Hayes of the University of Rohampton has conducted a massive survey across the UK of those who have lost their spouses, parents, children, brothers, sisters and friends.
“People said they saw silhouettes, heard voices, felt touches, smells - this is what we call a sense of presence that is not associated with any of the five senses,” she commented.
If the Milanese scientists believe that such contacts are just a hallucination caused by longing for a departed person, then Hayes believes that contact may be quite real. And her colleagues at the University of Southampton do not rule out the existence of an afterlife.

Near-death sensations
Another fairly common phenomenon is the so-called out-of-body experience. Research shows that people who experience something like this are not always highly spiritual or religious.
Dr. Erlendur Haraldsson of the University of Iceland studied the statistics of near-death visions of terminally ill patients based on a survey of about 700 medical professionals in the United States and India. He managed to collect about 500 such evidence. According to other studies, up to 200,000 Americans experience near-death experiences each year. As a rule, they have the feeling that they have left their body and see it as if from the outside, and also penetrate into other dimensions.
Researchers F. M. Kh. Atwater and Kevin Williams analyzed the feelings that people usually experience before death or during clinical death, and identified the main ones.

In 69 percent of cases, people talked about the feeling of overwhelming love that they experienced when they were “on the other side” in the process of clinical death. At the same time, 56 percent felt tremendous delight, realizing that they had finally freed themselves from the body shell and from all earthly problems. Another 56 percent reported meeting with God or some kind of luminous beings, as well as deceased relatives. At the same time, 65 percent realized that they were communicating with them telepathically.
46 percent traveled to various areas of the underworld, and some even said that they had seen hell … Another 46 percent felt that they had learned all the secrets of the Universe, but when they returned to life after clinical death, this unlimited knowledge disappeared somewhere.
44 percent received information about future events. 46 percent had to make a decision - whether they will stay "on the other side" or come back. In some cases, the decisions for them were made by their "beyond the grave guides", who sometimes told them about an unfinished mission in the real world.
By the way, only 42 percent remembered how they moved through the tunnel leading to the light. Some felt the feeling of a quick flight to the source of a bright glow, while others felt that they were moving along an aisle or stairs.
