"Prodigal places" are popularly called anomalous zones where anything can happen. First of all - a complete loss of spatial orientation.
The size of such anomalies varies from 100-200 m to 1-5 km. For townspeople who rarely visit nature, wandering, for example, in the forest is natural: there are no landmarks, the trees are similar, besides, the step with one foot (more often with the right) for most people is several centimeters shorter than the other, which is why a person does not having a reference guide, cannot walk in a straight line, but begins to describe circles 3-4 km in diameter.
Many legends about evil spirits striving to "whirl" the traveler are associated with this feature of the organism. Many, but obviously not all. The villagers, who are more accustomed to hiking in the forest, lose their orientation much less often, and this happens, as a rule, in really "prodigal places", well known to the peasants of the surrounding villages. As a rule, UFO sightings and various anomalous phenomena are not uncommon in such places.
There are many well-known prodigal places in Russia. In the Moscow region, such were noted in Zakharovo near Golitsyno, in Novy Byt (Chekhovsky district), and also not far from Koutuar near Dubna. Many people have noticed that the Burnet (Sanguisórba), a plant from the Pink family, grows abundantly in prodigal places.
There is a prodigal place in the village of Tukhani in the Tver region. This local anomalous zone is called the Sandovsky Triangle. People can walk in circles for days, literally wandering in three pines. The compass and other devices in the Sandowski Triangle fail, the clock often stops.
Amazing things also happen in a prodigal place on the territory of the Bogatovsky District of the Samara Region. You can stomp for hours in one place. Old-timers claim that one rainy night in these places “the earth trembled, the hills danced, and a“tailed star”fell from the sky.

Even in folklore they say that fornication can dwell in prodigal places - restless souls of those who died in the forests and not buried according to the appropriate rite, as well as suicides, innocent victims and even soldiers who died on the battlefield.
You can often hear tales that this Leshy loves to play with people, making them wander for hours "in three pines". To prevent this from happening, you must behave respectfully in the forest - in its possession. If, nevertheless, Leshy began to confuse you, then you need to take off your outerwear and turn it inside out and put it back on. Tales of prodigal places can be heard in almost every village. How can one explain that in certain places even an experienced person begins to wander?
It is easiest to assume that the “witchcraft” of “prodigal places” is explained by the nature of the area. As an example, we will cite the area found by a group of Kaluga researchers of anomalous zones. This is a heavily overgrown area of a homogeneous forest, or, as is the case between the villages of Usadye and Bokovo, standing on the banks of the Oka, a poorly trampled path passing through dense bushes bifurcates, and even local residents often confuse them.
Perhaps, in some cases, the appearance of the Prodigals is facilitated by magnetic field anomalies. It has now been proven that any person has their own "magnetic compass" located at the base of the nose (according to other sources, in the cerebral cortex).
The townspeople have a "magnetic flair" at best at the subconscious level, savages use it quite consciously, while our ordinary villagers occupy some intermediate position: they often use their natural "compass" without realizing it.
Perhaps the formation of "enchanted places" is facilitated by iron ores, whose deposits are not of industrial importance.
