The US Department of Defense has confirmed that it has top-secret files regarding an incident between the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and a possible UFO that could threaten national security.
In response to a Freedom of Information Act request, the US Navy's Naval Intelligence Agency said it had found “some information slides that were classified as 'top secret' relating to an incident in which pilots intercepted a strange object off the coast of San Diego in 2004 … However, Naval Assistant Lawyer Camilla Estres said the tapes would "cause extremely serious damage to the national security of the United States" if released.
Susan Gough, a Pentagon spokeswoman, told Vice News that the navy will not publicly discuss the citation of the object or the contents of the files in their possession.
Chad Underwood, the navy pilot who filmed the incident, classified the unidentified flying object as "unstable," claiming that he was the first to encounter such an object.
