Nothing evokes the same sense of natural mysticism as an ancient tree, and the North Yorkshire Moors boast one of the most impressive collections of centuries-old trees in northern England. Some of them are believed to be around 1000 years old.
The North Yorkshire Moors also offer beautiful hilly landscapes of purple heather and what most consider a Roman road. However, local legend has it that the road (locally known as "Wade's Road") was actually built by a giant named Wade to connect his home at Mulgrave Castle with the home of his giantess wife, who lived at Pickering Castle.

Chapel of st peter
This simple chapel on the windy Essex coast in southeast England is nearly 1,400 years old, making it the oldest church in the country. It was built in 654 AD on the foundations of a Roman fort by Saint Sedd, a Christian missionary commissioned by the Northumbrian king to convert the locals.
Modern pilgrims must now follow the rugged path through open farmland to visit the chapel, which is still regularly maintained today. Despite the chapel's minimalist style, the building's age and wild, isolated coastal surroundings give it a distinctly foreign look for believers and non-believers alike.
Mountain Hollow of Saint Nectan
In this ancient woodland in Cornwall, a magnificent waterfall was formed, where the Treville River flowed through prehistoric shale. Some say that before the knights of King Arthur went in search of the Holy Grail, they first cleansed themselves spiritually in this mountain hollow. It is true that Saint Nectan's Mountain Hollow was considered a sacred site during the time of King Arthur - a Christian temple was built there in the 6th century - so the legend is not entirely far-fetched.
No one can say if King Arthur really purified his knights here. However, it cannot be denied that Saint Nectan's Mountain Gulch is now seen as a deeply spiritual place for many people of different faiths. Visitors often leave ribbons, prayers, crystals and photographs in this peaceful and magical place.
