New York State Rockland County police issued an unusual statement. Law enforcement officers warned their fellow countrymen that a so-called coywolf, a hybrid of a coyote and a wolf, had started up here. Talk about such animals has been going on in the United States for a long time, but so far not a single officially documented case of mating a wolf with a coyote is known, let alone their offspring. Until now, such creatures have been the object of interest only for cryptozoologists, but certainly not for the guardians of the law.
Take a look at the picture above - the police officers even managed to photograph the mythical beast. Despite the relatively low image quality, it can still be clearly seen that this is far from an ordinary wolf, and certainly not a coyote. The photo was taken recently near the city of Congers. Around the same time, several townspeople reported seeing a large, gray dog-like animal in the vicinity. Coywolf or werewolf?
Can wolves and coyotes really interbreed in nature? Experts argue that this is possible, since these species, presumably, separated only a few millennia ago. Genetic studies show that nearly all gray wolves in North America are related to some extent to the prairie wolves, which are coyotes. However, as mentioned above, no cases of such crossings have been recorded these days. Cryptozoologists note that if this really happened, then the coywolf should be much larger than an ordinary coyote: the weight of an adult male can, in theory, reach 80 kilograms. Such an animal must have super-powerful jaws and a ferocious disposition.
Given that canines always give birth to several puppies, there is a high probability that there may be more than one coywolf in Rockland. The police ask citizens, firstly, not to let their pets out on the street, and secondly, in the event of a collision with an alleged cryptid, make loud sounds and try to look as big as possible. Some residents of the district, especially impressed by this news, even fear now that they might not have some kind of coywolf, but a real bloodthirsty werewolf.
