The medieval French physician, astrologer and clairvoyant Michel Nostradamus (1503-1566) still remains perhaps the greatest authority on predictions. It is believed that in his famous "Centuries" he foresaw historical events for many centuries to come. Russian history is no exception.
From Ivan the Terrible to Napoleon
Thus, the first most significant predictions concerning Russian history are supposed to date back to the time of Ivan the Terrible.

As you know, Ivan the Terrible had eight wives. Seven of them died, including those who were killed by the order of the king himself. He was also suspected of killing his own son Ivan. The last of the wives, Maria Nagaya, survived, probably only because the king himself died.
In the quatrains of Nostradamus there are vague references to Boris Godunov, Patriarch Nikon, and Peter's reforms, and the murder of the young Tsar John Antonovich …
And here is the 15th quatrain of the VIII Century:
The great woman of the North will awaken
and the splendor of all Europe will attract, With her, the world will not forget two eclipses, And Poland will come to great grief."
Who is this if not about Catherine II? She came to power, overthrowing her own spouse, Emperor Peter III, and ruled Russia for over 30 years. It was during the Catherine's era that the borders of the Russian Empire were significantly expanded - it included the southern part of Ukraine, Crimea, part of Moldova and, finally, Poland. In addition, it was an era of cultural flourishing, when, indeed, all of Europe turned its attention to Russia. As for the two eclipses, here, obviously, we mean purely astronomical events, which Nostradamus often mentions in general.
He foresaw Nostradamus and the invasion of Russia by Napoleon Bonaparte, and his defeat in the Patriotic War of 1812. Here are the lines from the 75th quatrain of the IV Century:
“His era is hopeless for the weak.
The strongest and smartest won victories.
With him, the guard will seize many lands, But in the snowy country the winner is gone."
False prophets
The words from the First Century can also be interpreted absolutely unambiguously:
“I see the king's thrones crumbling, When a human hurricane sweeps them away
The Republic will be made worse than the crown
Both whites and reds are a cruel deception."
Yes, there is no doubt that we are talking here about Russia and the October Revolution, as well as about its dramatic consequences. True, according to Nostradamus, this power will last no more than 73 years and 7 months. The great soothsayer was mistaken perhaps for a month or two: Soviet power lasted from October 1917 to December 1991.
Quatrain 14 of the same Century says:
“The Slavic people are under a bad sign, Their prisons and songs are not for their kings, Will come to replace, like a sacred oracle, Scholastic and dogmatist and false prophet."
And here is another quatrain 45:
“A new faith has been created by the dogmatist, All spectacles glorify great deception.
Animals are measured by a noble measure, And evil, as good, is presented to us."
This can be said about Lenin, the main theoretician of socialism, and about Stalin. But the 30th quatrain of the next, II Century, can only be attributed to Stalin:
I am afraid of the unknown third ruler
A mysterious, barbaric, terrible country.
His comrades-in-arms were killed by him, And only hell will preserve his old age."
Revival awaits Russia?
And yet Russia, after many trials, Nostradamus promises the coming of the Golden Age. According to interpreters, the path to revival will begin in 2014 (as we remember, this is the year of Russia's re-annexation of Crimea).
Here is how the prophecy for the following years is decoded:
“What will be has never been so beautiful … the second century of Saturn is the Golden Age. The Creator will see the torment of his people and peace will be concluded between God and people. Ahead is the beginning of the New Era. Before that, there will be great troubles, but after that Justice and Goodness will reign on Earth."
As for the specific year 2017, if you believe the interpreters of Nostradamus's legacy, it will turn out to be quite difficult for Russia, but our country will suffer less from military conflicts and natural disasters than others. Moreover, Russia in the near future is destined to play the role of an arbiter in disputes between other world states.
