It's all about the sound Ἰ - it's not just "and", but aspirated, which in different dialects is replaced by the letters "g, v, y".
The official etymology says that the Greeks took their word from the Sanskrit Sindhu, which means river. So the Greeks allegedly did not pronounce "S", replaced it with this aspiration. That is why Sindhu became the Indus River, and the country along it became India. The Hindus themselves call themselves "bharat"

In this regard, one can ask the question: does all the testimonies of the Greeks (up to the campaigns of Alexander the Great) about India really refer to India? And maybe the wild, barbaric, but alluring land for them was not so much the east as the land of the ancient Wends?
