Although most Americans claim to be committed to Christianity, they continue to believe in evil spirits, reincarnation, seeing ghosts, and fearing the evil eye. This is evidenced by data from a survey conducted by the Pew Forum, Infox reports with reference to the Associated Press

More than 30% of Americans surveyed said they felt a connection with the dead. 18% reported seeing or feeling the presence of a ghost.

Almost a quarter of US citizens admitted to practicing the rituals of Eastern religions, although in fact only a small proportion of Americans consider Hinduism or Buddhism to be their basic religions. Thus, almost 25% said they believe in the rebirth of souls. 23% reported that yoga is a spiritual practice. 26% of Americans believe in the "spiritual energy" of objects such as trees.

A quarter of those surveyed said they believe astrological predictions. 16% reported that the evil eye really exists and that some people are actually capable of sending evil spirits and misfortunes to others.

Nearly half of those surveyed said they had experienced a sense of religious or spiritual awakening at some point.

As it turned out, among those who consider themselves Catholics, 30% believe in astrology. Moreover, 16% of them regularly go to church. Among evangelicals 13% believe in astrology, and 10% believe in the possibility of soul rebirth. At the same time, the Evangelists turned out to be the most greedy for various mystical beliefs.

The survey involved 4,000 American adults.

Earlier it was reported that, despite a large-scale election campaign, during which US citizens were convinced that Barack Obama was not a Muslim, many Americans are still convinced that their president is faithful to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. According to France Press, a poll conducted by the research organization Pew Research Center showed that 11% of citizens share this opinion. In October 2008, Obama was considered a Muslim by 12% of those polled.
