“It was dark, it flew very low, and there was silence,” - this is how dozens of eyewitnesses described the ghost plane that appeared in the evening sky last Monday over the British county of Derbyshire.

According to observers from the Peak District, Ripley, Hilton, Hop, Matlock and Ambergite, it was a dark plane from World War II that flew completely silent and incredibly low above the ground.

“I was at an intersection heading for the Hilton when this dark plane flew overhead,” said Sue Dorling, a 57-year-old Hilton resident. “I thought it was weird, since he was landing in the opposite direction from Egginton airfield. He didn't make any sounds, and the guy who was standing at the crossing was pointing at him, so not only I saw him. I don't believe in ghosts, but it was very strange."

Many eyewitnesses stated that they saw a large green plane, similar to the military transport "Douglas Dakota", which seemed about to crash to the ground. But 76-year-old Iris Robinson and her husband Keith saw two planes flying near their home in Belper at 6:50 pm on Monday.

“We were in the kitchen when we heard them fly. We looked out the window and saw that one plane headed towards Ashbourne, and a few seconds later a second appeared. They flew very low and very fast."

Aaron Titterton wrote on Facebook: “My dad and I were driving along the A38 at about 6:45 pm on Monday when two planes flew over us. It was scary, they were so low that I thought they would break. They did not make noise and did not leave any traces after themselves."

Engineer John Haig was driving over the Woodhead Pass on Monday night towards Glossop, and saw two planes between 18: 00-18: 30.

“They flew rather slowly and close to the ground and looked like they were old military aircraft with no markings. I wanted to take a picture of them, but there was nowhere to park."

“We drove down Bretby Lane at about 7 pm and saw massive military aircraft flying very low and making no noise. It was weird. Several cars in front of us stopped and people were looking at them,”said a woman from Derby, who did not want to give her name.

“I looked out my bedroom window and saw two planes,” said one resident of Newhall, South Derbyshire. “They were going so low that I thought they were going to land next to us, as they were almost touching the tops of trees and houses. I was shocked because I did not hear them, and then they disappeared."

“The radio suddenly went silent and the sky became very dark,” Lindsay Taylor said, “all of a sudden, a huge old plane flew right over our heads, completely soundless and heading for the ground … and then it just disappeared.”

The legendary ghost plane has appeared over Derbyshire more than once, but this particular case is rather strange, since it is a massive observation.
