This happened after the end of the American Civil War, that is, in the late 1860s. In the state of Oklahoma, in a village not far from the Indian lands, a former soldier, Jake Jacobs, arrived with only a travel bag and a small fox terrier dog named Foxy.

Jake was wounded in the chest in the war and this wound did not heal for a long time. He was looking for a quiet place where he could finally rest and heal.

Double tragedy

Jake was greeted by the owner of a large house by the name of Matthews and he, out of his kindness, allowed the soldier and his dog to stay with him for several days. Jake later found an abandoned hut and went to live with Foxy.

When the wet autumn came, Jake once got very wet while hunting and on the way back knocked on Matthews's door, asking him to let him warm up by the fire. However, Jake was getting worse before his eyes. Matthews gave him some dry clothes and went to get the doctor, but when they arrived back, Jake was already in a fever.

According to the doctor, he had complicated pneumonia. Two hours later, Jake fell into oblivion. All this time his dog was sitting on the porch and was very restless, as if he felt that something was wrong, because he was howling loudly and sadly. When Matthews finally let him into the house, Foxy rushed to the owner and began to lick his face.

But then he began to howl pitifully again, and after a few minutes Jake died. While Jake was buried, Foxy continued to whine and howl, and then lay down on the owner's grave and lay there for several weeks. Matthews brought him food and water all this time, but the dog hardly touched the bowls.

When Foxy died, Matthews buried him next to Jake.

Ghost dog

Some time has passed, maybe months, maybe years. Another stranger, whose name was Edouard Jacques, came to Matthews' house. He said he was looking for a temporary job and Matthews said a neighbor named Brady was looking for farm laborers.

Jacques left the horse with Matthews, went to Brady and he took him to work on the farm. Jacques worked all day, got paid, and then returned to Matthews for his horse.

But in the stable, Jacques suddenly saw a small dog of the Fox Terrier breed and he suddenly deftly jumped right on the back of his horse. "What a mischievous man" - thought Jacques and began to drive the dog away with a coil of rope. However, the rope went through the dog's body like a hot knife through butter!

Then Jacques himself decided to remove the dog from the horse with his hands, but his hands only grabbed the air. And nevertheless, visually, the dog was like a real one and continued to stand on the horse's back. Then Jacques led the horse itself and ran with it from the stable. As soon as they crossed the boundaries of Matthews' house, the dog disappeared. The impressed man decided not to tell anyone about this curiosity.

Then Jacques stayed to work for Brady on a permanent basis and every day he came to Matthews for his horse. And every day a little fox terrier was waiting for him in the stable, which played, jumping on a horse, or just ran next to him.

Four months later, Jacques had become friends with Matthews and Brady by that time, and one day all three were sitting at Matthews' house and having dinner. When the conversation turned about various horror stories, Jacques could not resist and told that he had been friends with a ghost dog for several months.

Matthews and Brady marveled at this a lot, and then Brady asked if he was afraid to see the ghost all the time. “Not at all,” Jacques replied and said that as soon as he realized that the dog was a real ghost, all his fear for some reason vanished.
