High air temperatures provoke people to crime - say scientists from the United States of America, who, with the results of their unusual study, make us look at the problem of global warming from a new angle. The material on the related scientific work appeared in the Journal of Urban Health.

“We drew attention to the fact that the number of crimes increases slightly in the summer period, that is, from May to September. To put it very simply, the comfortable weather pushes people to commit crimes,”the researchers say.

Which compared large amounts of statistical data with each other before drawing such conclusions. Scientists took as a basis the crime statistics accumulated by the Philadelphia police, and then compared it with the data of meteorological observations.

In addition to the temperature of the environment, humidity was also taken into account - on the basis of these indicators, the so-called thermal index was calculated.

“The maximum value of the heat index is 100 points. When the index is matched, for example, to 98 points, the number of crimes is nine percent higher than with an index of 57 points. That is, there is a real correlation between temperature and the number of crimes,”the scientists conclude.
