Not far from Dubna, in the middle of the forest, there is an unusual object that looks like a gigantic raincoat mushroom - a silvery ball as high as a five-story building. The structure with a diameter of about 18 meters is famous among tourists, but where it came from in these remote places, there is no definite answer.
Location
Although the mysterious ball is called a landmark near Moscow, strictly speaking, geographically it is located in the Kimrsky district of the Tver region, a few kilometers from the village of Ignatovo. The object is associated with the science city Dubnoy for the reason that it is the nearest large settlement.
The giant artifact has long been chosen by Dubna and capital lovers of off-road trips and picnics in nature. In recent years, Jeepers have rammed the forest track, so the route to the ball is no longer as difficult as it used to be. However, in the off-season it is difficult to get here even by off-road vehicles. The numerous graffiti left on the balloon testify to the popularity of the object.
What's interesting about it
Already a few tens of meters from the ball, you can hear a frightening noise. Coming closer, everyone strives first of all to climb inside the sphere through a gap at ground level. In the space of the ball, amazing acoustic effects are observed. Powerful echo repeats and amplifies any crackling and rustling, turning ordinary sounds into vibrating drone.

This behavior of sound waves is explained by the properties of the cellular fiberglass from which the ball is made. Not all people are able to withstand the cacophony that occurs when sounds are reflected from the walls. Many of those who have been inside the ball claim that they were gripped by an incomprehensible fear. Mystically inclined and impressionable people can even feel the "presence of otherworldly forces." However, there is a much more real danger when visiting this place - inside the balloon you can see a sign of radiation. It is not known whether anyone has measured the radiation level with a Geiger counter.
Versions of origin
There are many legends explaining the appearance of the ball in the Tver wilderness. One of the most exotic theories says that under Soviet rule, acoustic weapons were allegedly tested here to disperse demonstrations. Others even believe that the structure is a wreckage from an alien ship.
In reality, the balloon appears to be a shell (dielectric cap) for the radar station, protecting the equipment from external influences. Such caps were installed both on stationary objects and on ships. The most substantiated version of the appearance of the ball near Dubna is associated with the command-measuring system "Kub-U", which existed in the 1960s in Shchelkovo near Moscow. This system, intended to control orbiting satellites, served the Soviet defense department for many years. In the 1980s, the KIS "Kub-U" was abandoned in favor of more advanced systems. The ball under Dubna appeared just in the years when the Shchelkovsky dome was decommissioned, so it is highly likely that this is one and the same object.
Presumably, the military carried the balloon by helicopter on a cable and dropped it among the trees along the way. However, this does not explain why he is nailed to the ground with metal piles. It is believed that the artifact, clearly visible from the air, was deliberately left in the forest as a false object in case of an enemy attack on air defense systems. Finally, it is possible that they were going to build a full-fledged defensive facility in the Ignatovo area, but for some reason the project was abandoned. Old-timers recall that for some time the balloon was guarded by the military. Also, according to rumors, next to the ball was its "twin", allegedly stolen by local residents. However, no trace of the second ball is found. And there are no large buildings made of fiberglass, which could be built from a structure disassembled into parts, in the vicinity.
At first, only mushroom pickers knew about the strange object near Dubna, and over time, the ball turned into a favorite object of visits, to which people go by cars and bicycles, and in winter - on skis and snowmobiles.
