According to the medpulse.ru website, Vietnamese doctors managed to save 48-year-old man Nguyen Van Nhat with the help of beer.

The patient was hospitalized with signs of poisoning. According to the head of the intensive care unit Le Van Lam, the level of methanol in the patient's blood exceeded the norm by 1119 times.

To save the patient, three cans of beer were poured into his stomach, which slowed down the liver's processing of methanol.

After that, 12 more cans were poured into the man, adding the contents of one can per hour. This continued until the man regained consciousness. In parallel with this, doctors carried out hemodialysis - the purification of blood from deadly toxins.

According to Dr. Lam, a person's stomach and intestines continue to release alcohol into the bloodstream, even when the person is unconscious or has stopped drinking. The man lost consciousness when the methanol in his body was oxidized to formaldehyde, and the latter produced formic acid.

Dr. Lam said that alcohol enters the human body in the form of methanol or ethanol. The first thing the human liver does is ethanol. This fact was used by the doctors when choosing a method of treating a patient.

Three weeks after the poisoning, the man was discharged home.
