Police in the United States detained a man for drunk driving, whose stomach, as it turned out later, independently produced beer due to a rare disease. It is reported by The Mirror.

In 2011, an unnamed North Carolina construction worker injured his finger and received antibiotic treatment. A week after the end of the medication, he developed strange behavior: depression, wanton aggression, memory lapses and a feeling of fog in his head. In 2014, he went to a psychiatrist, who prescribed antidepressants, but the treatment did not help.

Soon after, the American was stopped by police and suspected of drinking alcohol. The builder denied everything and refused to undergo a medical examination. He was sent to a clinic for an alcohol test. The analysis showed that the amount of alcohol in the patient's blood is equivalent to ten units of alcohol - that is, 100 grams of pure alcohol.

The patient continued to categorically deny drinking alcohol, but the doctors and police officers did not believe him.

Later, specialists from the University of Richmond Medical Center in New York diagnosed a man with auto-fermentation syndrome - a condition where the stomach contains so much yeast that it produces its own beer from foods high in carbohydrates.

After diagnosis and appropriate treatment, the patient began to return to normal life. The builder again saw the previous symptoms only when, secretly from the doctors, he ate a pizza with soda. After that, he began to follow a healthy diet.

Now he has not been bothered by auto-fermentation syndrome for a year and a half. He admits that he is happy not only because of the absence of health problems, but also because before his family and friends did not believe him and were suspected of hidden alcoholism.
