It's no secret that alcohol is directly related to the emotional state of a person. For some, it lifts the mood, while for others, on the contrary, it drives them into depression. Alcohol liberates someone, and makes someone more aggressive and cocky. British scientists (where can we go without them?) Conducted a study linking various types of alcoholic beverages with the emotional state of a person. You can read about their conclusions in this material.

“Understanding the relationship between emotions and different alcoholic beverages is essential for us to try to prevent alcohol abuse in the population. But first, we must understand how certain alcoholic beverages affect the emotions of representatives of different segments of the population who consume them,”British researchers write in their scientific work.

As a material for the study, the scientists used data from the world's largest online opinion poll on the use of alcohol and drugs by adults - the Global Drug Survey. This survey includes questions about the amount, types of alcohol consumed, as well as about the emotions that a person causes in the use of one or another type of alcohol. According to the survey, people most often associate drinking alcohol with energy, relaxation, increased sex drive, self-confidence, fatigue, aggressiveness, and so on.

After analyzing the results of a survey of more than 30,000 people aged 18 to 31 years from 21 countries of the world, scientists have identified a pattern in the connection between certain alcoholic beverages and a certain emotional state in people. Red wine, for example, relaxes a person. As, however, and beer - more than 50% of respondents agreed on this opinion. But strong alcoholic drinks most often awaken aggression in people. The respondents were least likely to associate them with a state of relaxation or rest.

“For centuries, the use of rum, gin, vodka and other spirits has been associated with violence. And our global study once again proves that it is hard alcohol that most often causes aggressive human behavior,”writes co-author of the study, Professor at Bangor University Mark Bellis.

Aggression is not the only emotion people associate with hard liquor. Some people find that such alcohol gives them energy, confidence and makes them more sexually attractive. Scientists in their research also note that the results of the survey vary greatly depending on the level of education of the respondents, their country of residence and age. For example, young people between the ages of 18 and 24 associate almost any alcohol with self-confidence and sexual liberation.

The gender of respondents and the amount of alcohol they drink also has a strong influence on the emotional consequences of drinking alcohol. Women, for example, are more likely than men to associate positive emotions with different types of alcohol. But no matter how different the results of the survey, one thing has always remained unchanged: strong drinks in the minds of people are directly associated with aggression. Of course, scientists cannot relate with 100% accuracy each specific type of alcohol to any particular emotion, but nevertheless, their conclusions should be heeded. Especially if you yourself like to lean on strong. The research results can be read in the BMJ Open magazine.
