An incredible number of dead owls were found this weekend along a section of Interstate 84 in Southern Idaho, a state in the northwestern United States (see video below).

When two friends, Nicole Miller and Christina White from Boise, saw the first bird lying on the road, they thought it was a poor chicken.

But their further journey took a completely eerie turn when the next thirty kilometers were literally strewn with dead birds. Looking closely at the plumage, Miller and her friend realized that they were owls. They stopped counting after counting more than 50 unfortunate creatures.

“There were many, many,” Nicole said. "It looked like they fell from the sky."

After an investigation, it turned out that this particular highway in Idaho is one of the most dangerous in the world for reddish-brown birds of prey of the barn owl family. Hungry barn owls, hunting for rodents along the road, become victims of cars speeding at speeds above 130 km / h.

Bird watchers have long drawn attention to the dangerous nature of the highway, and yet the birds that continue to die there casts doubt on the legendary wisdom of owls.
