What can be stored in this archive, and where did it come from at all? The history of this archive begins in the Middle Ages, when every Pope tried to get possession of rare and important documents. In those years, before the invention of the printing press, manuscripts were not so common. All the most worthwhile papers ended up in the Vatican Library, but in 1610 Pope Paul V separated the archive from the library and thus officially recognized the existence of secret documents. For many years the church has been collecting various documents bit by bit, to which only a select few had access.
The collections have been available for viewing literally a few times in history, but of course not all. most people can only guess what is stored there behind closed doors. Rough estimates say that half of the shelves (about 40 km) are filled with occult literature and various secret documents. Interest in the Vatican Archives was instilled by the writer Dan Brown, who in his books ascribed a lot of mysteries to the repository. What can be stored there, according to guesses?
The secret archive is interesting in itself - it contains many rare documents.
