British scientists, who have conducted research for a long time, have found that people with cancer can live for more than ten years.
So, according to the Office of National Statistics of Great Britain, 89% of those who found out about their disease, with timely diagnosis and treatment, could live another ten years.
Also, scientists were able to establish that those suffering from skin cancer have the greatest chances to survive with such a diagnosis for another ten years. At least, this fact was recorded in nine out of ten cases.
In turn, eight out of ten women with breast cancer have every chance to live the same period. Patients with prostate cancer showed similar indicators. But here people with cancer of the pancreas (about 6%), lungs (about 10%) and brain (about 12%) can hardly prolong their life much.
At the same time, scientists note that over the past 40 years, the survival rate for people with cancer has doubled. According to researchers, 8 out of 10 patients suffering from some types of cancer recover completely.
The authors of the work are confident that timely detection of the disease and its treatment will help prolong the life of people who have been given a disappointing diagnosis.
