In the Chinese province of Guizhou, there is a rock "laying eggs": once every 30 years, smooth stones of a round or oval shape break off from it. No explanation has been found for this phenomenon.
A small hill near the village of Gulu-Zhai in China was named Chan Da Ya ("rock egg-laying"). Its surface is covered with convex rounded formations that fall off and fall to the ground every 30 years. The rock itself reaches six meters in height and 20 meters in length, and its unusual stones have a diameter of 30 to 60 cm and can weigh up to 300 kg.
Similar "eggs" are found on some nearby rocks, as well as in the Beidaihe and Xinjiang regions, but the largest accumulation forms precisely on the surface of Chan Da Ya. Scientists cannot explain why this happens.
It is known that the upland itself was formed 500 million years ago in the Cambrian period, when this area was covered by the sea. The marine sediments formed by calcium carbonate are harder in structure than the limestone, which is the main rock. Over time, solid fragments are squeezed out (the cycle takes exactly three decades), but it is not clear why they take a round or oval shape. Running water has such an effect on the rock, but it is not inside the limestone rock.
Local residents are sure that "stone eggs" bring good luck. Almost every nearby house has at least one such stone, and after the phenomenon became known around the world, the hunt for them reached a new level: enterprising Chinese sell them to tourists.
