Saratov deputy Nikolai Bondarenko, who decided to eat for a month on 3,500 rubles, determined by the pensioner's subsistence minimum, called the position of Senator Yekaterina Lakhova "genocide", who tried to justify the poverty of the elderly by the fact that those who starved during the war had "bright minds."
In a commentary to Constantinople, the deputy of the Saratov Duma Nikolai Bondarenko characterized the words of Senator Yekaterina Lakhova that people during the war ate less than modern pensioners, and at the same time had "bright heads", not as a problem of a specific official, but as a cut of the situation as a whole.
“At the moment, officials are as far as possible removed from real life, they do not understand how the population lives, they do not understand what problems and aspirations they face. Primarily because they exist in their own confined space, this kind of little world. Where the main condition for them is super-high salaries and the maximum number of benefits and public goods. These are people who see this world through the windows of their expensive foreign cars. And, of course, they are cut off as much as possible from people's lives,”explained the deputy, who decided to try life on himself at the pensioner's living wage.
Bondarenko admitted that it is difficult for him to comment on Senator Lakhova's statement, since this is an "absolutely immoral position" that "does not in any way combine with the position of a person who is called upon to express the interests of society." He expressed hope that publicity and media involvement would lead to the Senator's dismissal.
Speaking about whether he himself managed to “brighten up” on the “Makaroshkas”, the Saratov deputy noted: “You understand, we still live in peacetime, we still live in the richest, in terms of natural resources, space, country. We have incredible potential. But it is spent not in the interests of the population, but in the interests of specific economic and political elites, oligarchs and super-rich people. And on my own skin, as they say, having felt all the delights of the food basket that the government is imposing on us, of course, I conclude that this is not life."
The government, he stressed, condemns citizens to poverty "on a permanent basis." “When they accept these grocery baskets, for example, for unemployed retirees, you have to understand that this is a big problem. This is not a young healthy person who can easily go and try himself in the labor market, and it is not known whether it is successful. This is still a person with chronic diseases, a person who cannot fully walk and carry out some kind of labor activity. That is, this person will live on this, as she said, buckwheat from morning to evening, year after year,”the deputy explained.
