Australian Kate Hill has joined the ranks of women who have experienced a rare medical phenomenon. Her daughters, born in December 2015, were conceived ten days apart.
Superfetation is a rare phenomenon in gynecology
Re-conception was caused by another ovulation, which came after a while. This phenomenon is extremely rare in gynecology. The spouses assure that during the ten-day period after the first conception, they did not have repeated sexual intercourse. Probably, active spermatozoa were preserved in the sperm residues in the vagina of our heroine.
To date, only ten cases of superfetation, or re-fertilization, have been recorded in the world. Children born to our heroine are, from a medical point of view, considered twins, conceived at different times.

Kate's pregnancy is very unusual
The mother herself regards her unique "double" pregnancy as a real miracle. For a long time, a woman could not conceive a child and was registered with doctors with a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome.
With this endocrine disease, the patient's ovaries increase in size and are filled with many follicles with fluid. The pathology is common, associated with the excessive production of the male hormone androgen by the female body.
During menstruation in healthy women, one of these follicles (or vesicles) leaves the ovaries and develops into another egg. In patients with polycystic disease, pregnancy cannot occur, since follicles do not rupture, they fill with fluid and turn into cysts.
There was no ovulation for a long time
Probably, two consecutive ovulations within one month could occur as a consequence of hormonal treatment. Essentially, superfetation means that a woman was able to get pregnant while she was already pregnant. What miracles are not found in medicine!
