A team of scientists from Canada has invented a new way to improve dental health in humans. Experts from Windsor, Ontario, say the presence of fluoride in drinking water will help strengthen enamel and take care of oral hygiene, Swapi reports.
Dentist Adexandria Mariano complains that caries has become increasingly common in young children lately, and besides, it has serious forms of development already at a very young age of patients. The doctor claims that cracks and various damage to the enamel are present in many children who have just begun to grow molars.
Dentists blame insufficient quality and healthy drinking water for the widespread prevalence of childhood caries. The fact is that five years ago, the Canadian authorities stopped adding fluoride to water in the province of Alberta, and already last year, almost all schoolchildren of the local school in Calgary had problems with tooth enamel and caries. Scientists decided to compare the condition of the teeth of schoolchildren in Calgary and Elmonton, where drinking water is still enriched with fluoride solutions. It turned out that students from Albert were diagnosed with more obvious and serious dental problems.
Winsor Health Department spokesman Gary Kirk appreciated the idea of returning fluoride solutions to drinking water, but noted that this will not happen soon. In an interview with CBC News, the specialist explained that this requires strong evidence of the negative impact of the absence of fluoride on oral hygiene.
