In 1656, in one of the families in northern Spain, a boy named Francisco was born, over whose life history people are still puzzled. There really is a reason for reflection.
Francisco de Vega Casar is called the Fish Man.
From the age of five, the boy swam surprisingly well, holding his breath underwater for up to ten minutes. None of his three older brothers possessed such abilities. When Francisco was 16 years old, he left for another city to study as a carpenter. In 1674, the young man, along with his friends, went to swim on the river. This day was the last time his colleagues saw him: a strong current carried Francisco towards the sea. They couldn't find him. The young man was declared drowned.
Five years later, in 1679, fishermen who were fishing off the southwestern coast of Spain noticed a strange creature, very much like a man, floating near their vessel under water. The fishermen could not examine it carefully: it sailed into the depths of the sea.
After this incident, other inhabitants of the coast began to mention encounters with strange sea inhabitants more and more often. In the end, it was decided to capture the unusual creature in order to put an end to all sorts of guesses.
We had to wait a long time, but the "sea monster" eventually got caught in the netting. The fishermen who pulled him to dry land, having examined their "catch", were shocked: in front of them sat an absolutely naked young red-haired man, with scales on his back running along the spine. The fishermen noticed thin membranes between the fingers and toes.
The sea stranger was taken to the monastery of St. Francis, where they tried to interrogate. But the prisoner did not speak, only inarticulate sounds escaped from his mouth. Only once did he quite clearly pronounce the word "Lierganes", but at first no one took it into account.

Only after some time, one of the clergymen remembered that Lierganes is located in the north of the country. It soon became known that a red-haired young man had indeed gone missing five years ago.
They decided to send the caught "fish man" to the village where Francisco de Vega Casar was born in order to clarify the situation. Maria dei Vega Kasar recognized him as her son, and the "fish man" remained in her family.
For almost ten years a strange man lived in the family of the Vega Kasar case. He was very well versed in the village, so even the last doubts that the sea stranger was indeed the missing Francisco disappeared.
The “fish-man” preferred to walk the streets barefoot, he never learned to speak. In the spring of 1683, Francisco again went to the river to swim. He never returned to the village.
This story is considered by many to be only a beautiful legend, but confirmed evidence that Francisco della Vega Casar really existed, disappeared without a trace, and then mysteriously reappeared in the village.
