On the pages of the French weekly Le Figaro, the question of star wars is raised, which are increasingly becoming real for our world. And we are not talking about conflicts with aliens, but about possible military collisions of space forces of different countries of the Earth.
According to Florence Parley, French Defense Minister, the militarization of space by the superpowers has been going on for a long time and, one might say, is gaining momentum. The politician bases his conclusions on the fact that a year ago a Russian satellite approached the French Athena-Fidus at a very close distance and tried to collect certain information. This, Parley said, could be considered an illustration of a "little space war" between the two states.
That is, surveillance of satellites, the minister writes, which will certainly be followed by the interception of data or even "blinding" of the enemy's spacecraft, or even knocking them out of orbit, may soon become commonplace in space, which for some reason is still considered safe and unmilitarized.
Florence Parley even cites some figures in his discussion of the "danger of star wars", for example, that France spends about 2 billion euros a year on the development and maintenance of the space sector, while the United States allocates 25 times more funds for the same needs of its country - up to $ 60 billion. At the same time, Ms. Parley for some reason welcomes the initiative of US President Donald Trump to create a space armed forces. According to her, this "gives a powerful signal", writes Le Figaro, but the signal for whom and for what is not specified.
The French reader remains at a loss what the Minister of Defense wanted to say with all this: either Florence Parley is concerned about the militarization of outer space, or is in favor of it, albeit with a small amendment: this militarization must certainly be carried out by America, but not by Russia …
