As follows from the results of research by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the first colonists who go to Mars on the Mars One project will begin to die within 68 days after arrival.
The scientists of the institute came to this conclusion after carrying out a series of analyzes of scientific data, in accordance with which the development of the Mars exploration project is underway.
According to the updated data, scientists have analyzed the resources of oxygen, food and technologies intended for the flight using graphs and mathematical formulas. The study report states that the death of astronauts will occur due to asphyxiation.
According to American scientists, the plants that are supposed to provide the colonists with food will produce too much oxygen, and the technologies for balancing the atmosphere "are not yet sufficiently developed."
Scientists also doubt the success of the mission due to the fact that the settlers will increasingly depend on the supply of spare parts, which will cost at least $ 4.5 billion, and over time, this amount will only increase.
Recall that the Mars One project was developed by the Dutchman Bas Lansdorp. According to his plan, in 2024, the first group of settlers, consisting of four volunteers, will go to Mars, who will have to make a seven-month one-way trip.
