In 2012, a unique Mars colonization program was announced - Mars One. Several volunteer colonists are planned to be sent to the Red Planet. Over the past three years, about 200 thousand people have expressed their desire to participate in the Mars colonization program, who have registered on the program website www.mars-one.com.

To date, 700 candidates from all over the world, men and women, have been selected, from which they will form several crews of 4 people (two men + two women).

Crew training will take several years so that they can travel to Mars on SpaceX Falcon Heavy rockets in 2022. It is important to note that with a high probability - a flight to a neighboring planet will become a one-way ticket for a volunteer, that is, they will never be able to return to Earth.

It was decided that there will be live broadcasts throughout the program and the flight will turn into a reality television show. At the same time, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have already analyzed the Mars One mission plan and found that the astronauts will face a difficult fate, so according to analysts, the first astronaut will suffocate after 68 days on Mars, the rest of the colonists will die of hunger and dehydration.

However, Bas Lansdorp, a Dutch entrepreneur and chief executive officer of Mars One, disputes the content of the MIT experts' report, according to the Dutchman, he already has a solution to the problem of generating oxygen and maintaining the necessary pressure inside the inhabited residential modules, and in rapid dehydration and starvation he doesn't believe. In any case, the life of the first colonists of Mars will be truly "Spartan" and they will not be able to comfortably live for years on the red planet.
