Video: When to Trust Your Intuition: Frameworks and Tools | Tim Ferriss 2024, November

Intuition has always been controversial. What cannot be touched and scientifically explained evokes quite mixed emotions - from skepticism to awe. Some people deny its existence, while others believe that it is a well-thought-out plan of action plus luck. Suppose that intuition exists and try to understand when it should and should not be followed.

Some people confuse intuition with fear. They are simply scared, so they say: "My intuition tells me that this should not be done." In many cases, such a person is simply afraid or lacks information. Therefore, such ignorance is passed off as intuition. As we can see, it is extremely difficult to distinguish intuition from other emotions and it is necessary to make it more visible and tangible in some way.

Intuition stands on four layers, so we will consider each of them separately.

Confidence

If you feel like you can't trust the person, this is probably the right feeling. It’s not just about intuition, the human brain reads information about the interlocutor, his behavior, manner and gestures. If you do not have the opportunity to see a person live, then the sixth sense is fully connected to the matter.

It is very important to be aware of what exactly is talking to you within you - intuition, fear, doubt, or past experience. When you understand what feeling you are dealing with, you move to the next level. Intuition presupposes faith and foreboding.

If you have a huge experience of communicating with people and you get huge benefits from dating, people rarely let you down, then do what you did before, trust yourself and them. If your trust can be easily deceived even when you think that the person is worthy, then stop listening to yourself. At least temporarily, until you acquire the skill of intuition and cannot understand a lot about a person in a couple of moments.

Read books on social psychology, observe people and try to understand why you like them and why you don't. Develop empathy and social intelligence.

So the advice is quite simple: write on a piece of paper the names of the areas of your life in which you are very successful and follow your intuition. In all other areas, you need to be very careful and carefully analyze any information. When you are excited about something, chances are you will make the right intuitive decisions and succeed.

Act

Intuition develops better after actions and decisions than before. So make decisions and act with your sixth sense, and don't criticize everything or do anything. Take the first step and see what happens.

If you are starting out in business, you may have absolutely no intuition in this area. Try yourself, make mistakes and see what it teaches you. Many people never start doing business simply because they know examples when their acquaintances lost a lot of money and went bankrupt. They don't think about those who succeeded. In this case, only fear leads them.

Therefore, try to take a couple of steps in business, study this area, be interested in it. If you are happy with your progress, take a couple more steps. Intuition will appear later, because it already has some kind of base, this is not pure speculation and prejudice.

Surprisingly, belief in oneself, in people or the Universe allows a person to do much more than if he treats everything with caution and caution. Whatever you do, you need faith in yourself and that you are doing the right thing and can help people.

Faith can be blind, but in our case it is very important to seek confirmation. If you believe in your art or your business, read the stories of people who have made tremendous success in these areas. Better get to know them personally.

Belief in people leads to the fact that you stop being afraid of new acquaintances and learn to cooperate with them. Even if one day you fail, still believe it to the end. Sometimes even a bad person is capable of good deeds if they believe in him and trust him.

First thought

This is the most difficult step, because people are so used to doubting everything that this very first thought sounds so quiet inside that you might not even notice it. Ask yourself a direct question and listen to the first answer. This does not mean that it is correct, but with solid practice you will learn to understand whether this is an intuitive thought or a critical one.

At first, several thoughts may come to mind at once and it will be very difficult to understand which one came first. Then write down all your thoughts on paper and read each one separately. The one that elicits the strongest response is likely to be that very intuitive thought.

Intuition is always the first thought. If you made the right decision after several hours of deliberation, it means that you have weighed all the pros and cons, analyzed all the options and, based on this, decided what to do. Both approaches are great and can be combined with each other. When you are short on time and need to decide right away, intuition comes to the rescue. If there is much more time, you can afford to analyze and plan your actions and decisions.

Practice developing your intuition and with experience it will help you out more often.
