It is very important to understand what a poltergeist is, both because of its physical danger to humans and because of its influence on socio-psychological processes in our society. The name "poltergeist" comes from the German language and means literally "noisy (noisy, noisy) or mischievous spirit", reflecting one of the most widespread ideas among the people about the immaterial (in the sense of "rough materialism"), emotionally saturated and in what -to the measure of the reasonable nature of the source of this phenomenon "(from the book" Miracles. “Location of the poltergeist focus: Togliatti, Tsentralny district, K. Marksa street, house 7 (…), apt. Observation through the door "peephole" behind the landing showed that there was no visible physical source (man, animal, technical device) during the appearance of the sounds. The sounds were heard by all family members, including when they were in the apartment in a different composition and number of people.
A survey of neighbors showed that a knock on the door of this apartment was periodically heard also by a neighbor, who subsequently asked Valentina Ivanovna who arranged “such a racket” (in this episode, there were no owners in the apartment exposed to the poltergeist, there was no sound source on the staircase, however sounds were available). A combination of sound and mechanical influences was observed.

So, with one of the poltergeist "knocks", the hook fastener flew off the front door. There were also "bumps" on the window (apartment on the 4th floor of a 5-storey building), physical objects that could cause such an impact were not found. The granddaughters feel physical influences, as if a certain object is “screwed” into their heads from behind and exits from the front.
There is no visible source of sensations, but after that a red spot remains on this part of the body. In addition to the sounds of knocks on the door, family members periodically noted the sounds of a dog barking, which fell silent as soon as one of the tenants went into the room to see who was barking from where. Visually observed objects of the poltergeist type - glowing balls of green-blue color in the room in the area of the window glass.
The observation of the apartment with the unfolding poltergeist lasted for about a year until the time when, using various methods, it was possible to first muffle and then completely stop this chain of events, which caused a large number of unpleasant emotions among the apartment owners.
However, this is why I remembered this incident. The mentioned poltergeist was the first of all that we know, during which we had to face a certain type of creatures or objects, which, perhaps, are the source of a number of mysterious events, in a generalized form called a poltergeist.
Once, after returning from a trip, Valentina Ivanovna went into the apartment and, to her surprise, saw how a gray, "foggy" ball, which shook the dust along the way, rolled through the layer of accumulated dust and hid under the armchair. … He hid under the sofa and … disappeared from sight. She saw again the same "ball of fog", only of a lighter color. This "ball" jumped over her legs in the morning, and then rolled under the bed.
Since there was no way to catch, measure or examine these uninvited guests, we only had to pay close attention to the stories of casual eyewitnesses about the observation of objects of this type. By the way, there were not so few of them.
As a rule, such messages have the following features of the same type: observation is accidental and, with rare exceptions, does not repeat itself (the person turned abruptly and noticed "this", or suddenly entered the kitchen, and "this" was sitting on the table, or "it" flew under the sofa, and the person managed to notice it). “It” looks the same in all stories - a “foggy” spherical or oval clot of light, gray or darkish color, which can change its shape (elongate, become flat or release tentacle-legs, however, of limited length).
A characteristic feature is the ability of such objects to move both on a hard surface (sometimes even with noise) and in the air (levitation). For example, the owner of one apartment, shaving in front of the mirror in the morning, saw through the mirror how the lid of the washing machine, which stood behind him, was lifted. From under it appeared a rounded brownish translucent "something", similar to swollen tights (the man could not find a better comparison), rolled over the edge of the car, quickly "glass" on the floor and darted under the door.
Perhaps it is these “hedgehogs in the fog” that are the very brownies mentioned in the title of this part “Chronicle of AY in Togliatti”. And that it is precisely such creatures that often take the image of "fabulous grandfathers" or "gnomes" is again shown by observations, which have accumulated enough for almost a quarter century. For example, here are a few such cases.
The first quarter of the Avtozavodsky district, an ordinary two-room apartment in a five-story building, has become another hotbed of a sluggish "home" poltergeist. Someone invisible periodically knocked and clicked loudly in the air in the middle of the room, and he especially liked to do this when the hostess - a woman of an older Balzac age - went to bed. Sometimes she noticed how a translucent fluffy ball rolled across the floor, throwing the attacking dust into the air.
Not understanding what was happening, the woman was only angry and cursed "into the world." And then one day, sitting on the couch, the landlady of the apartment noted with surprise to herself that she was experiencing some unusual sensations. It is difficult to describe how this was expressed - either the air became clearer, and the sounds are louder, or something else that happened … Turning to the bedside table, she saw that a small man was sitting on it, as if he had descended from an illustration to a Russian fairy tale, but quite alive and real. Sits and grumbles: “Why are you hiding candy and jam from me? What am I, volume? I need a little bit, you won't even notice …"
The woman was startled by surprise, and the man disappeared from sight. He was - and he is not … Deciding to check her vision, she began to leave some sweets and jams in the kitchen, accompanying this with a mental invitation to taste the delicacies. Coincidence or not, but from that day on, all noises in the apartment stopped.
He lived in another family from Togliatti. As befits a normal brownie, he was invisible, only made noise sometimes. One evening, the hostess of the house was sitting in front of the TV, was carried away by the program, and suddenly she heard muttering: “I want so much cheese! What a shame, they left cheese on the table, but such a huge piece - can you bite? If only I cut it down a little!"
Turning to the voice, the woman saw a very small old man - beard and gray hair, disheveled, crafty eyes, and a shirt and pants were tied with a rope. He walks up and down the room and grumbles. The hostess perked up with surprise - who, they say, is - and the old man disappeared. She went to the kitchen to look, and it turned out that there really was a piece of cheese of a very decent size lying on the table. Cutting off a smaller piece, she left it on the table.
It is not yet clear why it depends whether these "koloboks" will be friendly or not very friendly. And that such objects are not always safe is also confirmed by eyewitness reports. By the way, a poltergeist can be "targeted", brought into the house with some object. N., one of the Togliatti artists, became a victim of such an induced poltergeist.
A friend of hers brought a piece of incense from a monastery in the Nizhny Novgorod region. It was a bit strange that for some reason this resin did not have a characteristic pleasant smell at all. A few days later, N.'s apartment was broken into. Moreover, the thieves passed the most "inconvenient" route, but strictly along the places where the pieces of incense lay. Another oddity - the thieves did not touch anything in the apartment. They just passed.
But it turned out that in another family (where the second part of the same incense was kept), on the day of its appearance, the doorbell rang. The hostess opened it and saw that there was no one behind the door, but … a gray misty ball burst into the crack and disappeared inside the apartment. For several days from that moment, the family, which had gotten along before, was torn apart by terrible scandals, up to the intention of killing one half with the other half. The scandals ended exactly at the same moment when the incense was collected and returned to the woman who brought it.
For the sake of fairness, I note that there are several times fewer cases with negative manifestations than neutral observations or mutually beneficial communication. Almost finishing her work, she suddenly felt herself losing her balance and falling. Imagine what it would be like to thunder from the ceiling of your own apartment!
Bending over at an angle of forty degrees, the woman suddenly felt that someone supported her with a firm hand under her back, and then put her in place along with the stool. Taking a breath, she went down to the floor and was about to go to thank her husband for his support - and only then it dawned on her that there was no one in the apartment! Husband at work, son at school …

It will not be superfluous to remember that folk rituals absolutely unambiguously prescribe to show the housekeeper some signs of attention, just like any other family member or (let the housekeepers not be offended) a beloved pet. People laughed at them, but at the same time it was considered unacceptable to offend or disrespect such a "home owner".
If we retell folklore in modern language, then we, perhaps, for hundreds of years, have been dealing with a certain form of life that has similar moral and psychological qualities to us, but based on different physical principles. So who still lives next to us? Who are they, the creatures whom folk experience for many hundreds of years of life has side by side attributed to the mythological people of brownies? They say that although he is invisible, he is the real owner of the house … As it was said in one famous comedy, "science does not know this …" However, this unknown does not interfere with the communication of people and these mysterious creatures.
Sometimes the "invisible" is discovered by animals. For example, a poltergeist harassed a Togliatti family for three days in a row. It was in house number … on Primorsky Boulevard. Chairs and other heavy things overturned by themselves, taps opened and water gushed out of them, the plug was pulled out of the socket at the washing machine during washing, and the stove in the kitchen, on the contrary, turned on at night, which almost led to a fire. One evening in the bedroom, all the linen was taken out of the closet. Moreover, the bed was neatly folded onto the bed, and the rest was piled on the floor in a heap.
Footsteps were heard throughout the apartment, as if they were being issued by a large animal with soft paws. But the most interesting thing was that the domestic cat became the defender of the family from such misfortune. She walked around the apartment, grumbling and rearing the fur on the nape, and sometimes, as if she was raising someone, she beat her paws in the air.
Once, after such a scuffle, the cat snorted and began to spit out coarse and long red hair, similar to the wool of nutria. After this incident, the poltergeist phenomena in the house subsided, and there were no more fights between the cat and its invisible opponent.
It would seem - here it is, the real proof of the unusual - a piece of "invisible" wool, which can be subjected to chemical, genetic and other conceivable analysis, compared with the wool of animals known to science! The love to cleanliness let her down - the mother of this woman, during the next cleaning, simply threw away the fur bitten off by the cat. What does she care about scientific objectivity! …
The category of poltergeists includes "seemingly unreasonable" doorbells (when it is reliably established that this is not pampering neighbors' kids or checking the apartment for the presence of the owners). The same goes for phone calls. And a mysterious poltergeist can appear anywhere. Even … at the city hall.
