Chinese scientists from Huazhong University of Science and Technology have found that young blood plasma transfusion promotes liver rejuvenation and recovery after ischemia-reperfusion. This condition occurs when blood flow to the organ stops and is dangerous for elderly patients. This was announced in a press release on EurekAlert !.
During the experiment, the researchers used three groups of rats. In the first, the animals were injected with plasma of young blood, and the second received plasma from old rodents. The third group served as a control, that is, scientists did not carry out any interventions. Then all rodents were subjected to artificially induced ischemia-reperfusion. It turned out that in animals in the first group, the liver recovered much faster after injury.
For the first time, the results clearly support the therapeutic and rejuvenating effects of plasma transfusions, the scientists said. This procedure may be beneficial for humans, but further research is needed to confirm the beneficial effects of plasma on the liver of elderly patients with circulatory disorders.
