Scientists at the Free University of Amsterdam have found that men who work hard, die earlier than those with sedentary jobs. The article was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. This was announced in a press release on MedicalXpress.
Experts have analyzed more than 2.4 thousand scientific papers on the relationship between occupational physical activity and mortality. These studies were carried out in 1960-2010. The sample for a systematic review and meta-analysis (testing a scientific hypothesis using statistical methods) included data from 17 peer-reviewed studies, in which 193,696 people took part.
It turned out that physical labor increases the risk of premature death in men by 18 percent.
At the same time, such a connection was not observed in women: the researchers even found a weak inverse correlation, indicating that professional physical activity reduced the likelihood of death in the fairer sex. However, the data were adjusted for the level of physical activity during leisure.
