This phrase can be heard surprisingly often lately. Another reason to believe in mysticism was the death of a resident of the regional center, who ate pancakes on the past Maslenitsa. Accidents associated with the former Insterburg (Kaliningrad region) have indeed become alarming a lot. And not only recently.
You don't have to go far for examples. Take the death of a football fan there. A man, while watching a television broadcast of the European Championship qualifying match, to celebrate a goal scored by his favorite team, jumped off the couch and jumped on the spot. He landed with a sudden heart attack. The ambulance was unable to help the poor fellow.
Or recall the noble impulse of a young Armenian who recently moved to Chernyakhovsk. He noticed a fire in one of the apartments in his house. Later it turned out that the company of four people got drunk there and could not get out after the unexpected fire of the electrical wiring. A volunteer rescuer who rushed to the rescue died in the fire along with the rest of the victims.
Drown yourself in jordan
The past Epiphany in Chernyakhovsk was also not without a rather extraordinary emergency. An elderly man tried to drown himself in Jordan (this is the name of a special ice-hole in which one plunges during a church holiday). Apparently, I could not find a more secluded place in order to settle scores with a hateful life. However, they managed to catch the suicide out of the ice font in time and safely pump it out on the shore. The celebration continued, but the unpleasant aftertaste, as they say, remained.
The aforementioned Shrovetide incident was the culmination of a string of strange incidents. Death overtook Chernyakhovtsi literally at the peak of fame - he had just won a competition for speedy eating pancakes. I went to receive the reward - and fell as if knocked down. By the way, doctors still disagree in determining the causes of the death: either the unfortunate man choked banally on a badly chewed piece of dough, or some latent disease made itself felt.
In most of these cases, steep troubles came in the midst of a priori pleasant events. In general, sheer mysticism. And if we recall the pilots of the air regiment stationed in Chernyakhovsk who crashed on the Day of the Navy, the regular arson of local offices and shops, the picture turns out to be quite gloomy.

Town at the gates of hell
Specialists in paranormal phenomena, who happened to be contacted with the question of the Chernyakhov anomaly, for all their scarcity, managed to adhere to completely different points of view. To me, as one who is very interested in the history of East Prussia, the most promising version seemed to be the version of an accidentally awakened primitive evil. Incidentally, even the most authoritative Chernyakhov local historian Gennady Razumny in one of his monographs mentioned that the ancient Prussians believed: somewhere in the vicinity of the modern town there is a gate of hell. Obviously for a reason they thought so! By the way, Gennady Fedorovich also passed away suddenly and still quite young. Moreover, under mysterious circumstances. At least the police investigated his death.

The most popular local legend is also associated with the ancient Prussian prince Kamsvikus, who left his own wife and son to death. The woman was doomed to appear in the form of a black cow, her monster husband - a black cat, and both of them were driven through the night forest by a black horseman. Working a few years ago on the very spot where Kamsvikus raged, an archaeological expedition actually unearthed the bones of a cow!
“But the remains of the animal were hurried to bury right there at practically the same depth,” says Evgeny KALASHNIKOV, who supervised the work. - So you shouldn't blame scientists, and even ascribe to them that which is rejected by modern science in principle.
Another popular legend says that the last witch in Europe was burned in Insterburg. And at the beginning of the twentieth century! True, there is no documentary evidence of the execution, but many people like to believe it. A favorite place of the local inquisitors was the basement of the Pine-turm tower of the Insterburg castle. There they tortured more than one woman, and their restless souls, like the Instersburg residents in a whisper, frightened each other, remained in gloomy dungeons. In the mid-60s, the tower was demolished by the workers of the repair and construction enterprise located at that time in the castle. And the mystics believe that disturbed ghosts still take revenge on the present generations of people.
Salvation is in prayer
Father Joseph, rector of the St. Michael's Church in Chernyakhovsk, prefers to see the root of local troubles not in ancient mysticism, but in existing realities.
- I am the dean of the district, which, besides Chernyakhovsk, includes Gusev, Nesterov, Ozersk, - says the priest. - I think that I am well acquainted with the general situation - believe me, our city is not much different from other settlements. Most people everywhere live without God. Even now, when Great Lent has come, and even the world crisis is in our yard, I did not notice that more people began to come to the temple to pray, ask the Almighty for help. Even grief or misfortune often cannot make a person remember about the eternal. They live, relying on chance, they think superficially, they don't seriously think about anything. And it should be! After all, such a superficial life - and it leads to a crisis.
- That is, no interference from otherworldly forces, the reason is in the people themselves?
- So this is the intervention of otherworldly forces! The unclean affects people. After all, if a person is without God, then with whom then? And, unfortunately, many are amazed: by the sin of pleasure, pride, love of money, vanity … Moreover, they believe that this is quite normal. Unhappy with life, they prefer to notice the sins of their neighbors, not seeing their own. And when they are repaid for their sins, they wonder why God punishes them.
- Are there any ways to influence this situation? Well, to bypass the city with a procession …
- If you wish, of course, you can consecrate a water tank and pour it over Chernyakhovsk from a helicopter! True, we still prefer to act on the ground. Here are two crosses at the entrances to the city from Kaliningrad and Gusev, God willing, we will put two more soon - from Sovetsk and Pravdinsk. However, as they say, trust in God, and do not make a mistake yourself. People need to pray more often, to repent, to confess. In general, look into yourself, not like an ostrich, which buries its head in the sand and thinks that it has avoided danger. When every citizen of Chernyakhovo begins to work on his soul, life here will definitely improve!
