Until recently, scientists believed that the air temperature on planet Earth cannot drop to minus one hundred degrees Celsius. However, observations of the climate of Antarctica refuted this opinion - the ice continent, according to the researchers, presented a real surprise.
Up to minus one hundred, however, two degrees were not enough, but minus ninety-eight, recorded in the eastern part of Antarctica, quite pulled themselves to a new temperature record.
“We receive temperature data in Antarctica using specialized climate orbiting satellites, so the information needs additional confirmation, which will need to be done through traditional ground measurements. But everything indicates that the air temperature in Antarctica can really drop to almost minus one hundred,”the scientists say.
The specific place where the record temperature was recorded is located in a lowland - scientists say that there are all conditions for the air temperature to drop to minus ninety-eight degrees or even lower.
Breathing air cooled to such a temperature, as experts say, is highly discouraged - there is a high probability of potentially fatal frostbite of the respiratory system.
