A photo of employees of a company producing oil in the Caspian Sea holding an unknown fish of an outlandish species, somewhat reminiscent of a stingray, is being vividly discussed on social networks, Ak Zhaiyk writes.

The publication turned to the director of the Atyrau branch of the Kazakh Research Institute of Fisheries Yerbolat Kadimov for a comment.

The scientist categorically stated that there are no conditions for the habitation of this species of fish in the Caspian, and the stingray could not end up there.

Then, having studied the photos, he added: “Yes, and you can see that this is a fake. Here a person can easily hold the "skat" in his arms, but this is impossible - firstly, he is heavy, and secondly, very slippery."

However, in the comments, many users questioned the scientist's conclusions. “Probably, he does not know what is in the sturgeon family the shovelnose and pseudo-shovelnose, the probability is high, since the Syrdarya shovelnose was found in the Syrdarya earlier. Kazakh SSR, short encyclopedia, volume 2, there is just a description of this fish, one of the users wrote.

“And this is the director of a research institute. Where is the keen interest? Find these guys in the photo, ask where they were caught, in what conditions, perhaps this is not the first,”wrote another.

Some people suggested that the picture is not the Caspian Sea: “Many of our compatriots work abroad, and these are Saipem guys in some country on the Arab Peninsula.”
