In 1952 over the capital of the United States of America, Washington. UFOs appeared, and to this day this incident has not found its intelligible explanation. Numerous eyewitnesses have witnessed the appearance of flying objects, including even experienced US Air Force pilots.
On July 19, 1952, air traffic controller Edward Nugent saw seven flying objects on his radar screen at about 7:40 pm that did not follow flight instructions and were moving at high speed. The radar system at Andrews AFB also managed to register the UFO before the strange signals suddenly disappeared.
What was seen in July 1952 over the US capital?
The capital of the United States, Washington, DC, was targeted by seven strange flying objects on July 19, 1952, which were spotted by air traffic controller Edward Nugent, as well as two Air Force bases, Andrews and Bolling. Control tower personnel at Washington National Airport immediately contacted the airborne commercial aircraft and asked if they were observing any objects in flight. But only one of the pilots answered their request succinctly.
At their request, air traffic controllers received from Captain S. K. Casey Pearman, from Capital Air Flight 807, responded about six radiant lights that flew through the sky and looked like stars without a tail. At the same time, F-94s took off from New Castle AFB in Delaware to clarify the situation, but the pilots did not find anything.
Just at the very time when these objects were sighted, the Pentagon was intensively engaged in the then new UFO phenomenon as part of the Blue Book project. Employees on the project have added the UFO sightings in Washington, D. C. to their growing list and began their investigations.

UFO re-sighting a week later
A week later, UFOs moving in the skies of Washington again caused increased attention and heated discussion in the press. The National Aviation Control Service registered twelve clearly visible lights in the sky and sent fighters to the UFO. But when the pilots approached the flying objects, they quickly flew away. As pilot William Patterson later explained to investigators, he was trying to make contact with rotating light objects at an altitude of less than 1000 feet. At the same time, he led the fighter at full speed, but, as he stated, he had no chance of overtaking the UFO.
The press literally exploded with this event, while the Washington Post also reported on the meeting of the UFO with the Patterson fighter, noting that the UFO was clearly superior in speed to the jet combat aircraft.
Temperature inversion only?
According to research, temperature inversions could be the cause of the radar signals. In the case of temperature inversion, a layer of cold air is trapped under a warm layer of air, and this phenomenon occurs primarily in extremely hot weather.
67 years ago, there was a hot summer heat in Washington. which led to the fact that the warm air formed a "blanket" that could reflect the beams of the radar. However, ground objects such as moving cars or telegraph poles can, under certain circumstances, be reflected in the sky at heights of thousands of meters. One of the officers of the US Air Force just blamed this phenomenon for the appearance of unknown signals on the radar screens. The fires, he argued, could have been formed by a layer of moisture in the atmosphere.
Skeptics and ufologists in the clinch
The National Capital Area Skeptics research team compared a July 1952 UFO sighting in Washington, DC. with a mirage. But ufologists have a completely different opinion, because it was experienced pilots who saw the lights, explains Robert Svyatek of the authoritative UFO research organization MUFON.
Radar operators at Washington National Airport told him that the anomalous signals were clear, hard targets, and looked like they were bouncing off the surfaces of metal surfaces.
At that time, a number of different UFOs were recorded in the United States, some of which turned out to be stars, meteorological balloons or airplanes on closer inspection. At the same time, the fear of a Soviet invasion among Americans was almost ubiquitous, causing panic among people, and the tension among the population was constantly maintained.
But despite numerous studies and analyzes, the 1952 UFO over Washington DC continues to be a mystery even today. However, the Roswell incident, which is considered the most famous UFO incident in history, when an extraterrestrial spacecraft crashed, as a result of which the aliens who arrived on it, died as a result, remains a secret to the public.
