Astronaut Mike Hopkins tweeted this image this week. It shows an eerie cloud that is outside the ISS window.
"Something happened in space today," Hopkins tweeted. "I'm not sure if it was just a cloud, what happened to the back left was pretty amazing."
The author of the post on io9.com contacted NASA for an official opinion on the observation, but received no response (due to a government shutdown).
Sources affiliated with the US government indicate that this phenomenon may have been caused by the launch of a rocket in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
However, we will wait for the official confirmation of this theory.
In the comments, the authors write that such an explanation (launching a rocket) does not make "any sense" because "no rocket or rocket track is visible in the image, nor anything like that" a rocket track or something like that.
Also, commentators drew attention to the upper part of the image, where the edge of the planet is visible. "It's hard to explain what that means," they write, but this point is interesting and worth celebrating.
Those who believe in the "otherworldly" might call the strange cloud a "cosmic ghost" that came to "watch" the ISS.
