Few people know that the Soviet Union also visited the moon. The corresponding information was published by the holding "Russian Space Systems" - previously only government specialists owned the data on the systems of the Luna-21 interplanetary station and the Lunokhod-2 apparatus.
The rover of the Soviet Union got in touch 503 times, after which the equipment of the space center recorded a sudden rise in temperature inside Lunokhod-2 by 54 degrees Celsius. Experts still do not understand what could have happened, since the rover stopped communicating.
We had to not only obtain valuable scientific data, but also show the whole world that we can make an automatic apparatus that will work effectively on another cosmic body. As part of this task, we have modernized the lunar rovers. The second traveled a distance much longer than the first. We were then very happy about this record, but we could not even imagine that it would hold out until the beginning of the 21st century - Professor Arnold Selivanov.
The program for the creation of the Luna-21 interplanetary station and the Lunokhod-2 apparatus itself was led by representatives of the Semyon Lazarev NPO. The program started on January 8, 1973. Despite the loss of the apparatus, the mission was deemed successful.
