In one of the farming regions of Texas, an influx of amateur ufologists is expected: dozens of people report that they have seen mysterious lights in those places in the sky

Among those who claim to have seen a large, silent object with bright lights that flew quickly and at low altitude over the city of Stephenville, 60 miles southwest of Fort Worth, are a pilot, a police officer and several local businessmen. …

Some say they saw the object being pursued by fighters. Most of the observations fall on one evening - January 8.

A local air force base says their planes did not appear in the region last week.

It is suggested that airliners illuminated by the rays of the setting sun were mistaken for UFOs. Local residents do not believe this and claim that the object was larger and flew quieter, faster and closer to the ground than the plane.

Stephen Allen, a pilot and owner of a trucking company, said: "People are wondering what it was, because it is part of the 'Bible belt', everyone here is afraid that the world will end soon."

According to Allen, the owner of the transport company and the pilot, he saw an object a mile long and half a mile wide. “It was definitely not like anything earthly,” he said.

Mechanic Ricky Sorrells claims that through his rifle's scope he saw a flat and monolithic metal object hovering about 300 feet above the field.

Lee Roy Gaitan, Erat County Police Officer, said, "I have not seen any flying saucers, and I do not know what it was, but it was not a plane and I have never seen anything like it." He added: "I think this is some kind of military machine - anyway, I hope it is."

The US Air Force is no longer involved in UFO research. According to the Mutual UFO Network, an organization that plans to visit Stephensville this coming weekend, there are about 200 UFO reports every month, mostly from California, Colorado and Texas.

In a poll conducted last year, 14% of Americans said they had seen a UFO.
