In 1988, the “flying city” was spotted by the crew of a Chilean patrol plane flying over a desert mountainous area.
Noticing below the megalopolis glowing with lights, the surprised pilots decided that it could only be Antofagasta - a large port in northern Chile. But how could he be here - they could not understand. Entering the circle above the city, they contacted the dispatcher. He clarified their location. “You are on the right course,” the dispatcher said. "There is no city below you."
And a minute later, the pilots decided that their eyes were dim: the strange city moved and swam, picking up speed, somewhere to the northwest. Soon its receding lights merged into a blur that disappeared into the clouds.
Apparently, the same "city" in 1996 saw the crew of another airliner. This also happened over the Andes.
Recently, the American media reported a similar incident that took place in 2006. This time, the mysterious city was spotted by the crew of a private jet flying from Colombia to Polynesia. In the area of the Galapagos Islands, the plane flew over a thick layer of clouds.
“Suddenly, to our left, a large spot of light appeared in the clouds,” the pilots report. - We took aside from him, but could not evade the meeting. The stain went right below us. It was a big city full of lights. In the bursting clouds, we saw his houses of modernist architecture, hundreds of illuminated windows and lanterns along straight, intersecting streets.
Luminous cars were moving along the streets, the same luminous aircraft hovered above the streets and houses. The city was very similar to the earthly one, but it was not earthly. We watched him for no more than a minute. The speed of its movement can be estimated at 30-35 kilometers per hour. The visibility was poor, the clouds were in the way, but we took some pictures …"
The eyewitnesses were interrogated by the US Air Force intelligence agency, where they were pledged not to disclose the incident. It became known about him only now. After meeting with the "flying city" one of the pilots began to suffer from nightmares. At the end of last year, he consulted a psychotherapist. It was then, during hypnosis sessions, that this mysterious story surfaced.
