Ufological situation
"Ufological war" - this is how you can describe the situation in the Italian UFO community. There are many groups in the country, several magazines are published and active work is underway, but the spirit of competition prevails, and differences on political and philosophical issues provoke endless unions and splits. In general, however, the Italian ufological picture resembles the situation in other European countries. Some researchers are inclined to the theory of the extraterrestrial origin of UFOs, while others are looking for a more rational solution to this mystery. Both groups do not always find mutual understanding. The CISU Group publishes a glossy magazine called UFO, as the acronym applies to Italian as well as English.

The Italian Air Force has been investigating UFO cases since the 1960s, and in 1976 the military began collaborating with ufologists. They were prompted to do so by a series of incidents involving the pursuit of UFOs by combat fighters. In one episode, a military training aircraft photographed a UFO, tracked by radar, and flew to intercept the object. Military officials denied the reliability of this case until the pilot told the ufologists about the incident. A year after the official denial, the photographs were made available for exclusive use in a skeptical article to support the hypothesis that the pilot saw nothing more than a balloon. The pilot said that the photographs included in the article did not show the object that he was photographing!
In 1993, an Italian delegate to the EU Energy Commission - a physicist by profession - actively tried to get the commission to fund UFO research, apparently with the consent of the government. The goal was proclaimed the creation of new sources of energy thanks to the understanding of the principles underlying UFO flight. The plan was rejected.
Contacts

Italy became the first European country to report a Type III contact after the start of the modern era of UFO research in 1947. In the course of this contact, which took place in the alpine village of Villa Santina in August of the same year, the undersized creatures, which today are called "grays", allegedly hit the explorer with a beam of light, knocking him out of consciousness.
In April 1950, one of the first contacts of TKZ, confirmed by physical evidence, was reported. An eyewitness saw in the vicinity of Varese creatures the size of a man, engaged, as it seemed to him, welding a damaged UFO. The next day, an eyewitness handed the police samples of the metal, after which the military began to investigate. Since then, no information has been received about this case, but several pieces of metal remained in the hands of ufologists. Analysis carried out in 1953 showed that this is a common alloy of lead with bronze, which is easy to obtain under terrestrial conditions.
In August 1947, explorer Rapuzzi Johannis saw a UFO and aliens landed. The aliens shot at him beams of light emanating from their chest belts. The beams knocked the eyewitness down, and while he, unconscious, was rolling down the mountainside, the aliens flew away.
Another curious incident occurred at the Aviano military base, which in 1999 became the staging ground for NATO's military operations in the Balkans. In 1977, it was a highly secret facility, which did not prevent a large saucer-shaped object from appearing over its territory on July 1, as evidenced by the testimony of the guards. While the object was hovering over the base, there was a complete power outage, leaving the garrison without light and communication. Subsequently, representatives of the army publicly stated that a low hovering cloud reflecting moonlight was mistaken for a UFO.
The appearance of the creatures described by Italian eyewitnesses is more typical for other European countries than for cases from the United States, which are dominated by small creatures with gray skin. "Italian" aliens are of medium to tall stature and humanoid appearance, often with beautiful facial features. On April 14, 1985, such creatures were seen at the Piancavello ski resort; they emerged from an unusual mist that shimmered with green light, around which the snow began to melt. The electromagnetic field generated by this cloud of fog caused interference in car engines. Almost the same reports have been received from other regions of the globe, so that the yellow-green electrified fog can be considered a typical element of UFO sightings.
On average, Italy has several hundred observations per year, a significant percentage of which are TKZ cases. It is possible that TC4 also took place, but these contacts remain largely unexplored as they are not full-fledged abductions. A typical example is the incident that took place on August 6, 1987 near Tsimolais. Three men traveling in the car saw a blinding light, after which the engine stalled. Jumping out of the car, eyewitnesses saw an oval-shaped aircraft hovering directly over their heads. Then there was a failure in their memories, after which the UFO disappeared, and the eyewitnesses suddenly found themselves several miles ahead along their route; how it happened, none of them remembered. Men who have experienced shock and nausea and who have suffered from severe eye burnshad to go to a local hospital, and for several days they had severe conjunctivitis. What happened during the memory lapse of eyewitnesses remains a mystery.
It is possible that a failed kidnapping attempt was carried out in July 1978 during a picnic trip to the slope of Mount Etna on the island of Sicily, four eyewitnesses, three of whom were military personnel - two officers of the Air Force and one officer of the fleet. Eyewitnesses were paralyzed by an unknown force emanating from a group of tall creatures that emerged from a UFO that landed on the rocks. They were trapped between a UFO and a steep slope, but then a car suddenly appeared on a winding deserted road, the appearance of which forced the aliens to return to their apparatus, which allowed the stunned eyewitnesses to hastily leave the scene.
Waves and special zones
The European wave of 1954 in Italy was no less intense than in France: in November of this year, several mass observations of the WN were recorded over Rome. One of the eyewitnesses was a prominent scientist and politician who called on the government to discuss the topic of UFOs, which probably marked the beginning of official UFO research in the country.
Another major wave swept Italy in 1978 and included reports of several landings and alien contact. One of them was the creepy kidnapping of a night watchman, who was allegedly attacked by a monster resembling a character from a horror movie. Such statements are very rare for ufology. The most active special zone is located in the north-east of the country near a military base in the Alps. It was here that contacts took place in Villa Santina and Aviano, as well as many others.
