Egyptian archaeologists have discovered a tomb that is more than four thousand years old. The burial is located in the vicinity of the Giza pyramids. This was announced in a press release on the Phys.org website.
The grave belonged to a woman named Hetpet, a close associate of the Pharaoh from the fifth dynasty. The walls of the tomb are made of clay bricks covered with wall paintings. Some of the drawings depict Hetpet herself watching the hunting and fishing. Other paintings show domesticated monkeys trained to pick fruit or dance to music.
The woman's mummy has not been found. However, archaeologists believe that another Hetpet tomb is lost in the western part of the Giza necropolis. At the moment, researchers are excavating in search of a second grave. It is believed that there are many more burials and artifacts underground, which scientists hope will soon be discovered.
